Braves' Sandy Leon: Back with Atlanta
Atlanta signed Leon to a minor-league deal on Monday, Lindsay Crosby of BravesToday.com reports.
Leon will be back with Atlanta after being designated for assignment on Thursday. The 37-year-old has struggled to get it going from the plate this season, slashing just .091/.091/.091 with no homers or RBI in 44 plate appearances this season.

Sandy Leon: Reaches free agency
Leon elected to become a free agent Monday, Lindsay Crosby of BravesToday.com reports.
Leon has decided to test out free agency rather than accept Atlanta's outright assignment. The veteran catcher could wind up back in the organization on a minor-league contract, though he now has the ability to negotiate with all clubs.

Braves' Sandy Leon: Headed to Triple-A
Atlanta outrighted Leon to Triple-A Gwinnett on Sunday.
Leon cleared waivers after being designated for assignment Thursday, and he'll wind up sticking around in the organization as catching depth at Triple-A. Before being pushed off the 40-man roster, the 37-year-old slashed .091/.091/.182 in 44 plate appearances with Atlanta.

Braves' Sandy Leon: Designated for assignment
Atlanta designated Leon for assignment on Thursday.
With Atlanta acquiring Joey Bart (foot) from the Pirates, Leon loses his spot on the 40-man roster after going 4-for-44 at the plate with zero extra-base hits and a 0:18 BB:K across 21 games.

Braves' Sandy Leon: On bench Sunday
Leon is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Reds.
After starting Saturday's 5-2 win and going 0-for-2 with a strikeout, Leon will hit the bench for the series finale. The veteran backstop has settled into a timeshare with Chadwick Tromp, and as both are valued mainly for their defensive abilities, neither offers much fantasy value while Atlanta covers for the absence of Drake Baldwin (oblique).

Braves' Sandy Leon: Heading to bench Wednesday
Leon is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Red Sox.
Though he'll be on the bench Wednesday, Leon has seen the bulk of the work behind the plate since Drake Baldwin (oblique) joined Sean Murphy (finger) on the injured list May 19. Over Atlanta's ensuing eight games, Leon has made five starts to Chadwick Tromp's three. Even if that trend persists, Leon -- a career .206 hitter in parts of 14 big-league seasons -- shouldn't be considered a viable fantasy option.

Braves' Sandy Leon: Lands with Atlanta
Atlanta signed Leon to a major-league contract Tuesday.
The veteran backstop signed with Atlanta as a non-roster invitee in February but failed to make the Opening Day roster and was released in April to pursue an opportunity in the Mexican League. Leon is back on a big-league deal this time since Sean Murphy (finger) was placed on the injured list. Leon should serve as the backup to Drake Baldwin while Murphy is sidelined.

Sandy Leon: Pursuing work in Mexico
Leon is working toward securing his release from Atlanta in order to sign with Mexican League club Sarapelos de Saltillo, baseball journalist Georgeny Perez reports.
Leon saw action in five games at the big-league level with Atlanta in 2025, but even with Sean Murphy (hip) beginning the current season on the injured list, the 37-year-old journeyman backstop was unable to beat out Jonah Heim for the No. 2 catcher spot on the Opening Day roster. After being reassigned to minor-league camp, Leon reported to Triple-A Gwinnett, with whom he's slashed .118/.268/.118 over 41 plate appearances. Expect Leon and Atlanta to finalize a formal agreement to part ways in the coming days.

Braves' Sandy Leon: Opening season in minors
Atlanta reassigned Leon to minor-league camp Friday.
Leon saw action in five games with Atlanta in 2025 but had little chance of cracking the Opening Day roster after the club signed Jonah Heim to a one-year deal shortly before the start of spring training. Leon will likely need at least one of Drake Baldwin or Heim to break down while Sean Murphy (hip) is still sidelined to make his way back to the big leagues.

Braves' Sandy Leon: Joining Atlanta for camp
Atlanta announced Wednesday that Leon will join the big club for spring training as a non-roster invitee.
The 36-year-old Leon saw action in five games for Atlanta in 2025 before being outrighted off the 40-man roster following the season. After electing free agency in early October, he quickly re-signed with Atlanta on a new minor-league contract. Leon will serve as organizational depth behind the plate and will be a candidate to join the big club if Atlanta happens to be without either Drake Baldwin or Sean Murphy (hip) for any period of time.

Braves' Sandy Leon: Outrighted to Gwinnett
Leon cleared waivers Wednesday and was sent outright to Triple-A Gwinnett.
Leon appeared in just five games for Atlanta this season, hitting a home run for his only hit in 12 at-bats. Now off the 40-man roster, the veteran backstop will have the option to elect free agency and test his luck on the open market.

Braves' Sandy Leon: Booted from 40-man roster
Atlanta outrighted Leon to Triple-A Gwinnett on Friday.
Leon will cede his spot on the 26-man and 40-man roster Friday in response to Ronald Acuna's (calf) reinstatement from the 10-day injured list. Leon struck out in his only plate appearance during his stint in the bigs. Leon will have the option to elect free agency or remain within Atlanta's organization.

Braves' Sandy Leon: Added to roster
Atlanta selected Leon's contract from Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday.

Braves' Sandy Leon: Cut from big-league camp
Atlanta reassigned Leon to minor-league camp Monday.
Leon's dismissal leaves Atlanta with just two healthy backstops in big-league camp: Drake Baldwin and Chadwick Tromp. Barring an addition from outside the organization, the two will begin the season as Atlanta's catching tandem until Sean Murphy (rib) is ready to make his 2025 debut. Leon is likely to open the campaign as organizational catching depth at Triple-A Gwinnett.

Braves' Sandy Leon: Signs with Atlanta
Leon signed a minor-league contract with Atlanta on Tuesday.
Leon was released by the Royals in late March after going 2-for-17 during spring training. He'll now offer Atlanta organizational depth behind the plate, but the chances of him contributing to the big-league club are extremely low.

Sandy Leon: Released by Royals
The Royals released Leon on Saturday.
Leon wasn't able to win a spot in Kansas City's catcher room after going just 2-for-17 while striking out seven times this spring. The 35-year-old backstop will now attempt to latch on with another organization, likely on a minor-league deal.

Royals' Sandy Leon: Camp invite from Royals
Leon signed a minor-league contract with the Royals on Wednesday that includes an invitation to spring training.
Leon has Salvador Perez and Freddy Fermin ahead of him on the depth chart, so he'll begin the 2024 season at Triple-A Omaha unless the Royals opt to carry three catchers. Slated to turn 35 in March, Leon got into 21 games with the Rangers in 2023, going just 6-for-41 at the plate.

Guardians' Sandy Leon: Scooped up by Guardians
Leon signed a minor-league contract with the Guardians on Saturday.
Released by the Rangers on June 21, Leon will head to Columbus to join the Guardians' Triple-A affiliate. Leon has only played in four minor-league games this season -- going 3-for-11 with an RBI -- and will serve as an organizational depth piece going forward.
