Summer was just ready to roll when Rangers rookie right-hander Nick Martinez last managed a quality start. He pitched his first one in nine outings dating back to June 21 Wednesday in Miami.
Martinez took advantage of a 5-0 lead by the time he took the mound in the second inning and finished with two runs allowed on six hits with two walks and seven strikeouts in seven innings. The relievers barely held on as Martinez raised his record to 3-9.
He will try to make it 4-9 Tuesday night in Seattle.
