Padres agree to terms with pitcher Jason Marquis

The Padres have agreed to terms with pitcher Jason Marquis, according to CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman. The deal is said to be one-year, $3 million. Jayson Stark of ESPN initially reported the signing.

The 34-year-old pitcher had a rough go of it with the Twins and was released after tossing just 34 innings. His numbers improved substantially after he signed with the Padres. In San Diego, Marquis posted a 4.04 ERA and 4.28 FIP in 93 2/3 innings before he suffered a fracture in his hand in late August. The injury should not prevent Marquis from being ready for spring training.

Marquis is a 13-year veteran and has pitched for eight teams throughout his career. Marquis also provides some value with his bat, and he won a Silver Slugger award in 2005.
