The Phillies and Giants are among the teams interested in free-agent shortstop/second baseman Ryan Theriot, according to CBSSports.com baseball insider Jon Heyman.

Heyman also reports that the Rangers and Indians have shown interest in Theriot.

Theriot has been part of the last two World Series Championship teams, hitting .270/.316/.321 in 384 plate appearances for the Giants in 2012, and .271/.321/.342 in 483 plate appearances for the Cardinals in 2011.

Theriot, who turned 33 in December, is a career .281/.341/.350 hitter with extensive work at  shortstop (530 games, 506 starts) and second base (324 games, 263 starts).

In San Francisco, Theriot would likely compete with Brandon Crawford for playing time at shortstop.

In Philadelphia, Theriot would likely serve as insurance in case second baseman Chase Utley isn't ready for the start of the season. Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro said Utley is "doing very, very well," according to Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com.

Theriot's role in Texas and Cleveland would likely be one as a strict backup in the middle infield.
