The Reds and Giants seem to be a bit peeved with each other. This could be something or it could be completely irrelevant. We might find out Wednesday, when they face off for Game 2 of their mid-week series. Anyway, here's what happened:
1. Giants reliever Dan Otero hit Reds star Joey Votto with a pitch in the seventh inning. Votto appeared to give a quick "stare down" to the rookie.
2. In the ninth inning, with a 9-0 lead, Reds reliever Sam LeCure threw a pitch behind Giants star Buster Posey, in the knee area, and both benches were warned by the umpiring crew. (Posey would hit a 2-run homer, not that it mattered in the 9-2 Reds victory).
3. In the press conference after the game, Giants manager Bruce Bochy was not happy about the Reds throwing at Posey. "That's how guys get hurt. Here's a guy we lost for a long time last year and he gets a ball thrown at his knees." (via Hank Schulman on Twitter). Also, according to Andrew Baggerly, Bochy said it "should have been obvious" Otero wasn't throwing at Votto, considering how much he struggled that inning (Otero's final line was six hits, six runs and one walk in 1 2/3 innings).
So there's the background just in case there's a brawl Wednesday night. If not, well, feel free to takes sides. Were the Reds just protecting their slugger or overreacting? Should the Giants have accepted that Posey would get thrown at when Votto gets hit? That's what the comments section is for ...
