The Rangers have called up their top pitching prospect, lefty Martin Perez, for Tuesday night's game in Detroit.
Perez was scheduled to start today for Triple-A Round Rock, but was scratched before the game and will be in the bullpen as Yu Darvish starts for the Rangers.
Perez is 5-5 with a 4.59 ERA in 15 starts, winning his last two, allowing just four hits and two runs in 16 innings.
The Rangers needed Michael Kirkman and Mark Lowe to throw a combined eight innings on Monday against the Tigers after Justin Grimm was chased without retiring a batter in the second inning of the Rangers' 8-2 loss.
