The Texas Rangers have signed right-handed pitcher Kyle McClellan to a minor-league deal with an invitation to major-league spring training, the team announced Tuesday.
The 28-year-old McClellan has spent his career in the Cardinals organization after the team picked him in the 25th round of the 2002 amateur draft. His five-year major-league career, which has been spent mostly in the bullpen, includes 17 starts, all made in 2011 when McClellan pitched a career-high 141 2/3 innings while winning 12 games.
McClellan pitched 18 2/3 innings in 2012, going on the disabled list May 18 and undergoing elbow and shoulder surgery July 10.
For his career, McClellan is 19-23 with a 3.69 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 257 strikeouts in 378 innings over 261 total appearances.
