The Red Sox have claimed relief pitcher Sandy Rosario off waivers from the Athletics, the club announced Monday.
For Rosario, all roads have traveled through Boston lately. The 27-year-old righty was claimed off waivers by the Red Sox from Miami on Oct. 17. Just over a month later, Rosario was dealt to Oakland for a player to be named later, eventually named as pitcher Graham Godfrey. Days later, the Athletics designated Rosario for assignment, an act that eventually led to Monday's Red Sox claim, leaving Rosario in the same place he was nearly two months ago, despite three extra transactions.
Rosario has appeared in just 10 major league games over the past three seasons, allowing a brutal 15.26 ERA. He spent the bulk of 2012 at Triple-A New Orleans with the Marlins' system, where he dominated minor league hitters. He allowed just a 1.04 ERA while striking out 24 and walking just two in 26 1/3 innings.
