Kevin Youkilis will be facing his former team tonight in Boston, but Brent Lillibridge can't say the same. Boston designated Lillibridge -- acquired along with pitcher Zach Stewart for Youkilis -- for assignment before Monday's game to make room for the returning Carl Crawford.
Lillibridge appeared in just 10 games for the Red Sox, managing just two singles in 16 at-bats. Overall this season, the 28-year-old utility player hit just .165/.212/.177 for the pair of Sox. He played right field, center field, first base and DH in his short stint in Boston.
Stewart, 25, has made four starts for Triple-A Pawtucket, going 1-1 with a 3.74 ERA. With Lillibridge gone so soon, the trade of Youkilis was essentially straight up for Stewart.
Crawford will be making his 2012 debut, playing left field and batting second. He hit .306/.432/.389 in 11 minor-league rehab games.
