Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington shot down any notion that Boston's trying to trade Josh Beckett, wrote the Boston Globe's Peter Abraham.
- Jon Lester is "staying," according to a Red Sox source. But here's who might be leaving: Kelly Shoppach, Ryan Sweeney, Matt Albers, and Andrew Miller, to teams who are looking to bolster their bench and/or bullpen. Here are the prospects who could be dealt: left-handed pitcher Drake Britton, and right-handed pitcher Stolmy Pimentel.
- Britton has spent time in Class A and Double-A this season, and has a combined 5.18 ERA in 97.1 innings. He's struck out 88 batters and walked 44.
- Pimentel has a 5.25 ERA in 16 starts and 82.1 innings for Double-A Portland. He's given up 88 hits and struck out 60 batters.
- Abraham noted, as first reported by CBSSports.com's Danny Knobler, that the Red Sox are interested in bringing Justin Masterson, who was drafted by the club back in 2006, back to Boston.
