Red Sox pitcher Justin Masterson, who is on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Pawtucket, has proven he is ready to return to the roster, manager John Farrell told reporters Wednesday.
However, the team is still determining if Masterson (shoulder) will rejoin the rotation or be placed in a relief role. Farrell said Masterson is open to pitching out of the bullpen.
The right-hander is 2-2 with a 6.37 ERA in seven starts this season. He is 0-2 with a 3.44 ERA in four rehab appearances between Double-A and Triple-A.
