The Brewers payroll is expected to decrease, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s Tom Haudricourt.
The club will look for a starter on the market but probably can’t afford Zack Greinke. Haudricourt mentions Ryan Dempster, Kyle Lohse and Edwin Jackson as possibilities. There’s also a chance they consider Brandon McCarthy. He also said the team is more likely to sign a pitcher instead of trading for one.
Even though Rickie Weeks and Corey Hart will be due a fair amount of money, Haudricourt doesn’t believe either player will be traded during the offseason. Both players will make $10 million next year. The Brewers are expected to cut significant salary by allowing Francisco Rodriguez and Shaun Marcum to leave via free agency. The team will likely also part ways with outfielder Nyjer Morgan, who is due a pay raise in arbitration.
