Former Red Sox catcher Jason Varitek is close to accepting a role within the organization, according to WEEI’s Rob Bradford.
While details about his role are unclear, Varitek could work with Red Sox minor leaguers during instructional league. After retiring earlier this season, Varitek said that he would consider returning to the Red Sox in a different role. He wasn’t ready to return in July, stating he wanted to spend more time with family before he committed to another job. It appears that he’s willing to consider his options now.
Varitek spent his entire 15 year career with the Red Sox. The catcher retired with a .256/.341/.435 slash line.
