The Marlins plan on putting Carlos Lee on waivers if they can’t trade him by the deadline, according to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale.
It looked like the Marlins were going to be buyers after they acquired Lee on July 4, but the team couldn't gain any ground in the standings, causing them to be sellers.
The 36-year-old Lee has hit .292/.348/.396 this season.
By getting rid of Lee, the Marlins would continue their fire sale. The team has already traded Anibal Sanchez, Hanley Ramirez, Randy Choate and Omar Infante this season.
It looks like Lee will be next whether they find a trade partner or not.
