The Orioles have contacted the Astros to discuss the availability of Wandy Rodriguez, Roch Kubatko of MASN reports.
Baltimore GM Dan Duquette has stated a need to overhaul the starting rotation. The group, headlined by Jason Hammel and dragged down by Tommy Hunter, Brian Matusz and Jake Arrieta, has the fourth-worst ERA in the league at 4.73. Rodriguez, with a 3.54 ERA and 3.90 FIP on the season, would be a clear upgrade, though his 5.8 K/9 is his lowest since his rookie year in 2005.
The Orioles have also been linked to Zack Greinke. Rodriguez and Greinke face off Saturday in Houston in a game the Orioles will surely be watching closely.
