Neftali Feliz will begin a rehab assignment Sunday with Triple-A Round Rock with the express purpose of stretching out to start, Richard Durrett of ESPN Dallas reported.
Feliz's future in the starting rotation was in question after he suffered elbow inflammation just 42.2 innings into his first season as a starter. However, the results were excellent -- a 3.16 ERA despite a 1.61 K/BB ratio -- and other injuries have left the Rangers with both Scott Feldman and youngster Martin Perez in the rotation as-is.
Even with Derek Holland returning soon, there is clearly a spot for Feliz despite Roy Oswalt's arrival on the scene. What remains to be seen is what would be done with Feliz should the Rangers acquire a starting pitcher, whether it's Cole Hamels, Zack Greinke, Ryan Dempster or some other name with less visibility.
