The Red Sox are going to be active in free agency, according to general manager Ben Cherington. In an interview with WEEI, Cheringon said the team has already discussed a plan for free agency.
When asked specifically about Josh Hamilton, Cherington said the team will “look at anything.” With the recent trade of Adrian Gonzalez, Carl Crawford, Josh Beckett and Nick Punto, the Red Sox have a lot more flexibility heading into free agency.
Cherington did hint that the team will be looking to acquire more offense during the offseason, and said it would likely be more than just one player. Cherington cautioned that while the team freed up a lot of money, they are going to be smart about how they spend it.
