The Red Sox have shown interest in free-agent 1Bs Lyle Overbay and Casey Kotchman, although the team isn't actively involved in talks with either player, according to WEEI.com's Rob Bradford.
The Red Sox remain in negotiations with free agent Mike Napoli, according to the Boston Globe's Pete Abraham. The two sides had initially agreed to a deal in early December before a reported issue with Napoli's hip was revealed during his physical. If Napoli is signed, he will likely be the team's regular first baseman.
Overbay, who turns 36 on Jan. 28, hit .259/.331/.397 with two home runs in 131 plate appearances in 2012 playing for the Diamondbacks and Braves.
Kotchman, who turns 30 on Feb. 22, hit .220/.289/.333 with 12 home runs in 500 plate appearances for the Indians. Kotchman has played for five different teams over the past four years, including the Red Sox, with whom he hit .218/.284/.287 in 95 plate appearances in 2009. He came to Boston that year in a trade-deadline deal with the Braves that sent Adam LaRoche, another player the Red Sox were rumored to have interest in this offseason, to Atlanta.
