The Boston Red Sox might shut down pitcher Franklin Morales for the season, according to the Boston Herald's Scott Lauber.
Lauber quotes manager Bobby Valentine saying, "I don't think [Morales] needs to pitch."
Morales had an MRI on his shoulder Monday, according to the Boston Globe's Pete Abraham, but the results weren't known Tuesday afternoon. Abraham reports that Morales felt pretty good after the MRI.
Morales, who hasn't pitched since Aug. 23, is 3-4 this season in 37 appearances (nine starts) with a 3.77 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and one save. He has pitched 76 1/3 innings for the Red Sox, striking out 76 batters while walking 30.
