The Red Sox will scout pitcher Javier Vazquez, according to WEEI's Rob Bradford. The initial report came from Victor Ramos, who also said the Nationals will be in attendance.
Vazquez, 36, is scheduled to pitch for his Puerto Rican Winter League team on Friday, and the Red Sox will watch his start.
The right-hander is considering a comeback after spending last season out of the majors. He is also planning to pitch in the upcoming World Baseball Classic in order to showcase his abilities. Vazquez allegedly hit 92-93 mph during recent workouts, according to Bradford.
In 2011, Vazquez threw 192 2/3 innings with a 3.69 ERA and a 2.57 FIP for the Marlins. Though he did not pitch last season, he never officially retired.
