With CC Sabathia slated to come off the disabled list on Friday, the Yankees will need to make space for him on the roster and it could be right-hander Joba Chamberlain who is optioned to make room, the New York Daily News reports.
According to the newspaper, the team is considering sending Chamberlain down to the minors. Chamberlain, 26, has options left, so the team could send him down and call him back in September when the rosters expand with little consequence.
In his seven appearances this season since coming back from an ankle injury, Chamberlain has a 9.45 ERA in seven appearances. He's allowed seven earned runs on 15 hits in 6 2/3 innings.
Sabathia threw a bullpen on Tuesday, announcing himself fit to start on Friday when he's eligible to come off the disabled list.
