It's not saying much for a second-year pitcher with a 2-7 lifetime record and 4.79 ERA, but Rockies southpaw Yohan Flande managed the finest performance of his career Thursday night.
Flande outpitched Max Scherzer in beating Washington. He allowed two runs on just three hits in seven innings with three walks and five strikeouts.
His long mistake was slugged over the fence by Michael Taylor in the seventh to turn a 2-0 lead into a 2-2 tie. But the Rockies scored in the bottom of the inning to give Flande the victory.
Flande has been pitching better of late with 12 runs given up in his last 28 2/3 innings.
