Some roster moves of note around the league:
- The Rays have activated Matt Joyce from the DL, and optioned Will Rhymes to Triple-A, reported the Tampa Bay Times' Joe Smith.
- Joyce missed about a month of action due to an oblique strain. He played two rehab games with Class A Charlotte, and had two hits in eight at-bats, an RBI, and a walk.
- Rhymes was batting .233/.306/.292 in 45 games, with one home run and eight RBI.
- Joyce will play right field, with Ben Zobrist moving back to second base.
- Outfielder Sam Fuld is also on the mend for the Rays. He hasn't played a game this season for the Rays after undergoing right wrist surgery in April.
- Fuld has played six minor-league games with Class A Charlotte and Triple-A Durham, and his hitting .188/.316/.188 with no home runs or RBI. He's walked three times and struck out five times.
- When Fuld returns, the Rays could cut ties with Hideki Matsui, who has struggled with Tampa, posting a .484 OPS in 85 at-bats.
- The Mariners have recalled Blake Beavan from Triple-A Tacoma, sendng relief pitcher Steve Delabar to Triple-A in his place, tweeted MLB.com's Greg Johns.
- Beavan will start tonight against the Royals, and has a 5.92 ERA in 12 starts for the Mariners this season. His numbers with Triple-A Tacoma are much better, but he's been hit hard with Seattle, allowing 77 hits in 62.1 innings, while only striking out 30.
- Right-handed Delabar pitched well in relief for the Mariners, with a 4.18 ERA in 32.1 innings. Opponents were hitting only .165 against him, and he'd racked up 44 strikeouts.
- In New York, Jason Bay is back with the Mets, and should be active for Tuesday night's game in Washington, reported ESPN's Adam Rubin. A corresponding roster move has yet to be announced.
- Bay has only played 22 games this season, and has a disappointing .187/.253/.373 triple slash line.
- Bay had three hits in 16 at-bats during his five-game rehab stint in the minors. He walked five times.
