The Royals could be the next team to make a big trade, according to FoxSports.com’s Ken Rosenthal.
Royals general manager Dayton Moore is “feeling the heat,” according to a rival executive who spoke to Rosenthal. He might be looking to make a deal that will push his team to another level. Rosenthal believes the Royals are still capable of adding another pitcher. He mentions a guy like Jeremy Guthrie could fit if the deal was back-loaded.
The Mariners have interest in DH Billy Butler, but the Royals are hesitant to move one of their better offensive pieces. The 26-year-old hit .313/.373/.510 in 679 plate appearances last season.
Tampa Bay has interest in acquiring top prospect Wil Myers, but it’s unclear if the Royals would move him, even for Jeremy Hellickson or Matt Moore.
Rosenthal also mentions Houston as a potential trade partner with the Royals. Bud Norris and Lucas Harrell would probably cost a lot less, though they have a more limited upside.
