The Royals have signed outfielder Endy Chavez to a minor-league contract with an invitation to spring training, the club announced Monday.
Chavez, 34, played in 64 games for the Orioles and hit just .203/.236/.278 (40 OPS+). He was never known for his bat, (career .269/.309/.367 line, 75 OPS+) but instead speed and defense. If Chavez does reach the majors with the Royals, he would likely be used largely as a defensive replacement able to cover all three outfield spots.
