The Angels, not the Rangers, ended up winning the Zack Greinke sweepstakes, sending a package of three of the organization's top 10 prospects according to both Baseball America and Baseball Prospectus (SS Jean Segura, RHP John Hellweg, RHP Ariel Pena). The Rangers reportedly offered none of their top 10 prospects for the right to rent Greinke -- their offer didn't involve SS Jurickson Profar, 3B Mike Olt or LHP Martin Perez, three of their biggest assets, Jesse Sanchez of MLB.com reported Saturday.
Other notes from around the league:
- Matt Garza's arm checked out clean, but with his wife's child due Tuesday, he isn't scheduled to pitch before the trade deadline, the Chicago Sun-Times reported. With Garza under team control for one more season, the uncertainty around his arm may force the Cubs to hold Garza at least until the winter.
- Rumors circled around Stephen Drew this month, but signs point to the Diamondbacks holding on to him, Buster Olney of ESPN reported Saturday. Drew has struggled since returning from a brutal ankle injury suffered last season, hitting just .222/.288/.292 in 21 games.
- Alejandro De Aza suffered a sprained left wrist in Friday's game but is expected to miss just one game, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reported Saturday.
