Torii Hunter returned to the Angels on Monday and is expected to be reinstated from the restricted list after missing two weeks to be with his son, who was arrested on a sexual assault charge in Texas.
Hunter, 36, worked out for the team Monday and is expected to do so again on Tuesday to determine whether he's ready to return to the lineup.
Hunter's 17-year-old son, Darius McClinton-Hunter, was one of five Prosper High School students arrested in connection to an alleged sexual assault. Hunter said he hopes the charges will be dropped soon.
"During the [baseball] season, this is probably one of the hardest things I've ever been through because this is my son, my blood," Hunter told reporters, including the Orange County Register. "To watch him go through this and watch him cry every night, it's pretty tough. I don't wish this on any father out there."
Hunter said he told manager Mike Scioscia that he had to return to Texas as soon as he heard his son had been arrested.
