Top Phillippe Aumont News

  • Phillippe Aumont: Announces retirement

Aumont announced in June that he would retire from professional baseball, CBC News reports.

Aumont attended spring training with the Blue Jays after agreeing to a minor-league deal over the winter, but he wasn't added to the 60-man roster pool for summer camp after electing to step away from baseball and take up farming as his next career. A first-round pick of the Phillies in 2007, the 31-year-old Aumont appeared in 46 career MLB games, logging a 6.80 ERA in 43.2 innings.

  • Blue Jays' Phillippe Aumont: Shut down with skin irritation

Aumont was shut down from throwing due to skin irritation on his right elbow, Jamie Campbell of Sportsnet reports.

Aumont is in big-league camp as a non-roster invitee, and he's allowed three runs on three hits over three innings during spring training. The injury appears minor, but the 31-year-old won't be playing in the Olympic qualifier for Team Canada on March 22 as previously scheduled. Aumont spent 2019 in the independent Canadian-American Association and hasn't seen major-league action since 2015.

  • Phillippe Aumont: Invited to Blue Jays' camp

Aumont signed a minor-league deal with the Blue Jays on Monday which includes an invitation to big-league camp.

The Canadian owns a 6.80 ERA and a 15.6 percent walk rate in 43.2 major-league innings, none of which have come since 2015. He's spent two of the last three years with the Ottawa Champions of the independent Canadian-American Association, posting a 2.65 ERA in 18 starts this past season.

  • Phillippe Aumont: Leaves for indy league

Aumont signed with the Ottawa Champions of the independent Canadian American Association on Friday, Brandon Warne of ZoneCoverage.com reports.

Aumont was once a good enough prospect to have been drafted 11th overall and to headline a Cliff Lee trade, but his control never developed. He recorded a 6.80 ERA with a 15.6 percent walk rate over 43.2 innings with the Phillies from 2012 to 2015 and has been out of the big leagues since. He spent 2018 in the Tigers' system, recording a 6.23 ERA in the high minors. The Canadian will return for a second stint with Ottawa after starting 17 games there with a 4.51 ERA in 2017.

  • Tigers' Phillippe Aumont: Inks minors deal with Tigers

Aumont agreed to a minor-league contract with the Tigers on Monday, Emily Waldon of The Athletic reports.

Aumont, who was once a top prospect for the Mariners and then the Phillies, is looking to return to the majors after pitching in Canada last season (4.51 ERA and 103:30 K:BB across 17 starts). He was never able to put it together at the highest level, posting a 6.80 ERA and 1.99 WHIP over 43.2 innings with the Phillies. The soon-to-be 29-year-old will likely serve as organizational pitching depth next season.

  • White Sox's Phillippe Aumont: Retires from professional baseball

Aumont has retired from professional baseball.

Once a top prospect for the Mariners and then the Phillies, the lanky righty never put it together in the majors, finishing his career with a 6.80 ERA and 1.99 WHIP over 46 appearances (one start) with the Phillies. After posting a 12.27 ERA over 10 games for Triple-A Charlotte in the White Sox's organization, he elected to call it quits at age 27.

The White Sox reassigned Aumont to minor league camp Saturday, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Aumont had no chance of making the MLB roster, but he hung around the big league team until the exhibition finale as an extra arm. He allowed zero runs, but walked seven, in his eight Cactus League innings. He could be up later in the season if injuries decimate the White Sox's bullpen.

  • White Sox's Phillippe Aumont: Signs Minor League Deal With White Sox

Aumont signed a minor league deal with the White Sox on Monday, Josh Norris of Baseball America reports.

Aumont once rated as a top-100 prospect and was included in a Clif Lee trade, but he has yet to do much in his 46 career major league appearances, and he did nil in the Blue Jays' organization after signing mid-2015. He will attempt to resurrect his career in a White Sox's organization that has previously revived previously-heralded arms.
