Brandon Guyer: Announces retirement
Guyer announced his retirement Monday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.
The 34-year-old spent parts of seven seasons in the big leagues, hitting .250/.339/.388 with 32 career homers and 22 career steals. A solid platoon bat in his best seasons, Guyer's standout skill was his ability to get hit by pitches, something he did 31 times in 2016, leading the league by seven in that category despite coming to the plate just 345 times. He was part of a Cleveland team that won the American League pennant that season.

Brandon Guyer: Hits free agency
Guyer was released by the Giants in March, Baseball America reports.
In camp as a non-roster invitee, Guyer logged one hit in nine spring plate appearances. He hasn't played in the majors since 2018 with the Indians, and it seems like the 34-year-old's big-league career has likely come to a close.

Giants' Brandon Guyer: Signs minor-league deal with Giants
Guyer signed a minor-league deal with the Giants on Monday, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.
Guyer has played 518 games in the big leagues and owns a respectable .250/.339/.388 slash line, good for a 104 wRC+. None of those games came in 2019, however, and the 34-year-old hasn't managed an above-average batting line since 2016, so his chances of making a significant impact in the majors this season appear slim. He hit a modest .244/.367/.366 for Triple-A Charlotte last season.

Guyer was released from his minor-league pact with Chicago on Friday, but finds himself back with the team after a few days testing free agency. The 33-year-old had a .220/.312/.351 slash line over 413 plate appearances with the Indians over the past two seasons, and should serve as organizational outfield depth for the White Sox.

Brandon Guyer: Released by White Sox
Guyer was released by the White Sox on Friday, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.
Guyer's .217 batting average in 11 spring games didn't help him claim a spot on Chicago's bench, and he'll have to look elsewhere for work. The 33-year-old has posted a wRC+ of 76 and 82 in the last two seasons, so he may have to head to Triple-A to wait for his next chance.

White Sox's Brandon Guyer: Returns to game action
Guyer (elbow) drew the start in left field and went 0-for-3 out of the No. 9 spot Sunday against Oakland.

White Sox's Brandon Guyer: Dealing with elbow injury
Guyer is nursing a sore right elbow, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Guyer apparently hurt his throwing elbow during the team's first infield-outfield drill. The outfielder has still been able to hit, and recently picked up a throwing program. It's unclear if this issue will affect Guyer's status for the start of the season.

White Sox's Brandon Guyer: Has healthy wrist
Guyer said he felt much better in the second half of 2018 once his surgically repaired wrist was fully healed, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Guyer underwent surgery during the offseason leading up to 2018 and felt that was the reason he under-performed in the first half. His first-half .580 OPS improved to .787 after the All-Star break, but it was not enough to entice the Indians to re-sign him. He now gets a shot with the rebuilding White Sox, who could have an opening for a three-position, backup outfielder. His main competition will be Leury Garcia.

White Sox's Brandon Guyer: Heads to White Sox
Guyer signed a minor-league contract with the White Sox on Tuesday that includes an invitation to spring training, Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
Guyer had a tough contract season in 2018, slashing .206/.300/.371 with seven home runs in 104 games as he was limited to a platoon role with the Indians. The 33-year-old should provide organizational outfield depth in Chicago but could very well end up in the mix as a No. 4 outfielder if he shows well in spring training.

Brandon Guyer: Optioned declined by Tribe
Guyer's club option was not picked up by the Indians on Tuesday.
Per T.J. Zuppe of The Athletic, the club could have kept Guyer in the fold for $3 million, but elected to pay his $250,000 buyout instead. He'll hit free agency as a 32-year-old coming off a season in which he hit .206/.300/.371. He's never received more than 385 plate appearances in a season and has hit .250/.339/.388 overall in parts of seven seasons in the big leagues, but Guyer has a .274/.376/.449 career line against lefties.

Indians' Brandon Guyer: Battling shoulder issue
Guyer is not playing in Tuesday's intrasquad scrimmage due to a right shoulder issue, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.
The severity of the injury is not clear, but it was enough to keep him out for the entirety of last weekend's series against the Royals. If Guyer is able to make the ALDS roster, he'll likely start against lefty Dallas Keuchel and be an option off the bench in the other games.

Indians' Brandon Guyer: Drives in two
Guyer went 1-for-3 with a walk and two RBI against the Yankees on Saturday.
Guyer's productive night was the result of a defensive blunder by the Yankees as the ball never left the infield but resulted in two runs crossing the plate. It's been a slow season for Guyer, though he has found success against left-handed pitching, posting a .475 slugging percentage in 61 at-bats against southpaws this season.
