Guyer announced his retirement Monday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.
The 34-year-old spent parts of seven seasons in the big leagues, hitting .250/.339/.388 with 32 career homers and 22 career steals. A solid platoon bat in his best seasons, Guyer's standout skill was his ability to get hit by pitches, something he did 31 times in 2016, leading the league by seven in that category despite coming to the plate just 345 times. He was part of a Cleveland team that won the American League pennant that season.

Guyer signed a minor-league deal with the Giants on Monday, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.
Guyer has played 518 games in the big leagues and owns a respectable .250/.339/.388 slash line, good for a 104 wRC+. None of those games came in 2019, however, and the 34-year-old hasn't managed an above-average batting line since 2016, so his chances of making a significant impact in the majors this season appear slim. He hit a modest .244/.367/.366 for Triple-A Charlotte last season.

Guyer was released from his minor-league pact with Chicago on Friday, but finds himself back with the team after a few days testing free agency. The 33-year-old had a .220/.312/.351 slash line over 413 plate appearances with the Indians over the past two seasons, and should serve as organizational outfield depth for the White Sox.

Guyer had been battling through some right elbow soreness, but he was able to play the field in Sunday's spring game. While he appears to have returned to health, the White Sox may monitor him closely to prevent further damage.

The severity of the injury is not clear, but it was enough to keep him out for the entirety of last weekend's series against the Royals. If Guyer is able to make the ALDS roster, he'll likely start against lefty Dallas Keuchel and be an option off the bench in the other games.
Guyer went 1-for-3 with a walk and two RBI against the Yankees on Saturday.
Guyer's productive night was the result of a defensive blunder by the Yankees as the ball never left the infield but resulted in two runs crossing the plate. It's been a slow season for Guyer, though he has found success against left-handed pitching, posting a .475 slugging percentage in 61 at-bats against southpaws this season.
