  • Diamondbacks' Randal Grichuk: Goes deep in win

Grichuk went 2-for-4 with a double, a solo home run and an additional run scored in Wednesday's 9-4 win over Colorado. Grichuk was responsible for one of the three home runs the Diamondbacks hit in the first two innings, giving them an early 6-0 lead. The homer was his 11th of the season and seventh in the last 15 games. During that stretch, the 33-year-old outfielder has slashed .459/.487/1.135 with 11 extra-base hits, 17 RBI and 13 runs scored.

  • Diamondbacks' Randal Grichuk: Back in lineup Wednesday

Grichuk (lower body) will start at designated hitter and bat third in Wednesday's game versus the Rockies. Grichuk had to be scratched from the Diamondbacks' lineup Sunday due to lower-body tightness, but he's been available off the bench the last two days and is starting Wednesday's game as the Rockies send southpaw Austin Gomber to the bump. The righty-hitting Grichuk is slashing .305/.370/.494 against lefties this season.

  • Diamondbacks' Randal Grichuk: Available Monday

Grichuk (lower body) is expected to be available off the bench for Monday's game against the Rockies, Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com reports. Grichuk was scratched from Sunday's starting lineup due to lower-body tightness, but he felt good enough to pinch hit later in the game and should be available in a similar capacity Monday if needed. The Diamondbacks are considering the outfielder day-to-day until further notice.

  • Diamondbacks' Randal Grichuk: Scratched from Sunday's lineup

Grichuk was scratched from the lineup for Sunday's game against the Brewers due to lower-body tightness, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports. Grichuk was scheduled to start in left field and bat third, but the back issue will instead keep him out of the lineup. The veteran outfielder is expected to be available off the bench, so he doesn't appear to be dealing with a serious injury. Pavin Smith is instead starting in left field for Arizona.

  • Diamondbacks' Randal Grichuk: Homers early in win

Grichuk went 2-for-5 with a double, a home run and three RBI in Wednesday's 14-4 win over Texas. Grichuk started against a left-hander and showed immediately why he was in the lineup. His two-run homer in the first inning was the third of three consecutive extra-base hits for Arizona. Grichuk later capped the scoring with a run-producing double in the eighth, the last of the Diamondbacks' 13 extra-base hits, which tied a franchise record. The 32-year-old has adjusted well to a part-time gig, posting an .821 OPS over 256 plate appearances -- the fewest PAs since his rookie year of 2014 (other than the pandemic-shortened 2020).

  • Diamondbacks' Randal Grichuk: Stuck in short-side platoon role

Grichuk is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Astros. Grichuk started in left field in each of the last three games, with the Diamondbacks facing left-handed starting pitchers on all occasions. He's been on the bench, however, for each of the Diamondbacks' three matchups with right-handed pitchers since Lourdes Gurriel (calf) landed on the injured list Tuesday. Grichuk looks as though he'll be ticketed for the short side of a platoon in left field with Pavin Smith until Gurriel returns from the IL.

  • Diamondbacks' Randal Grichuk: Two homers Tuesday

Grichuk went 3-for-5 with two homers, three RBI and three runs scored in Tuesday's win over the Giants. Grichuk is making a case for manager Torey Lovullo to keep him in the lineup even against righties with Lourdes Gurriel (calf) landing on the 10-day injured list Tuesday. Over his last five games, Grichuk is 9-for-15 with four homers and nine RBI while raising his OPS nearly 100 points from .735 to .828. Tuesday's effort was his first multi-homer game since Sept. 6, 2022 and he's doubled his season home run total over this hot stretch. For the year, Grichuk is slashing .284/.342/.486 with 26 extra-base hits, 34 RBI, 32 runs and a 17:41 BB:K in 240 plate appearances.

  • Diamondbacks' Randal Grichuk: Muscles up in win

Grichuk went 3-for-5 with a three-run home run, a double, an additional RBI and three total runs scored in Sunday's 14-3 win over the Dodgers. Grichuk was one of six Diamondbacks with multiple hits, but he was the only one to log three hits in the game. His homer capped off an eight-run second inning, and he tacked on an RBI single in the eighth. The veteran outfielder hit a paltry .243 over 16 games in last month, but three of his six homers this year have come since the start of August. He's now at a .274/.330/.453 slash line with 31 RBI, 28 runs scored, 16 doubles, two triples and no stolen bases over 233 plate appearances while filling a short-side platoon role.

  • Diamondbacks' Randal Grichuk: Batting second Thursday

Grichuk will serve as Arizona's designated hitter and No. 2 batter in Thursday's game against the Mets. Grichuk will crack the lineup for the second time in the series, with both starting assignments coming while the Mets have sent left-handers to the mound. The 33-year-old continues to fill a short-side platoon role for the Diamondbacks, either as a replacement at DH for Joc Pederson or in the outfield for Corbin Carroll or Jake McCarthy when Arizona faces southpaws.

  • Diamondbacks' Randal Grichuk: Continues to sit vs. righties

Grichuk is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Pirates. Grichuk drew starts in all three games of the Diamondbacks' series with the Nationals to close out July, though Washington brought southpaws to the hill for each of those contests. With the Pirates starting three right-handers (Luis Ortiz, Mitch Keller and Paul Skenes), Grichuk has been on the bench for each contest in Pittsburgh and still looks to be locked into a short-side platoon role.

This was Grichuk's first homer since June 11, and he hit a paltry .194 over the 14 games between long balls. For the season, the outfielder has a .292/.347/.462 slash line, three homers, 20 RBI, 17 runs scored, 11 doubles and one triple across 144 plate appearances. Grichuk went 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and two additional runs scored in Tuesday's 9-4 win over the Angels. Grichuk, who also doubled and tripled, nearly hit for the cycle. He's opened the month of June with a bang, going 9-for-17 with four extra-base hits, four RBI and five runs scored. He will remain a lineup fixture against left-handers, off whom he's hitting .313/.368/.463.

  • Diamondbacks' Randal Grichuk: On base four times

Grichuk went 2-for-3 with two walks, an RBI and a run scored in Saturday's 10-5 win over the Mets. Grichuk, in the starting lineup as normal against a left-hander, made an immediate impact by gunning down Francisco Lindor trying to stretch a single to a double in the bottom of the first inning. He later walked ahead of Christian Walker's third-inning grand slam and singled in a run in the seventh inning. Grichuk has performed well against left-handers, batting .317 with a .368 OBP versus southpaws.

Grichuk went 1-for-2 with a run scored in Sunday's 6-4 win over the Tigers. Grichuk singled as a pinch hitter to lead off the bottom of the seventh inning and came around to score the winning run. He's been incredible as a pinch hitter, going 7-for-10 with a walk when batting for a teammate. The right-handed hitting outfielder/DH is typically in the lineup against lefties and has made just four starts over the last 17 games.

  • Diamondbacks' Randal Grichuk: Two RBI in win

Grichuk went 1-for-2 with a double and two RBI in Sunday's 9-2 win over the Orioles. Grichuk entered as a pinch hitter for designated hitter Joc Pederson and doubled in two runs, upping the Diamondbacks lead to 9-1. He finished out the game at DH. Arizona manager Torey Lovullo has rigidly stuck to having Pederson mostly face right-handers -- just five plate appearances against lefties -- so when southpaw reliever Cionel Perez entered the game, Grichuk got the opportunity with runners in scoring position. As a pinch hitter in 2024, Grichuk is 5-for-7 with a walk, three doubles and three RBI.

Grichuk went 1-for-3 with an RBI in Monday's 8-4 loss to the Dodgers. Grichuk, starting for the first time in five games, delivered the Diamondbacks' final run with a sacrifice fly as part of a three-run fifth inning. Arizona faced a string of right-handers the last week, forcing the righty-hitting outfielder to the bench.

  • Diamondbacks' Randal Grichuk: Extends hit streak

Grichuk went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run scored in Friday's 17-1 win over the Giants. The righty-hitting Grichuk was in the lineup against a left-handed starter, and the outfielder participated in the fun with a two-run double in the fifth inning. He singled an inning earlier to extend a hit streak to five games. When the Diamondbacks built a big lead in the later innings, he was removed for a pinch-hitter and replaced in right field by Pavin Smith, who was recalled from Triple-A Reno on Friday. As a lefty batter, Smith is not expected to challenge Grichuk's current role. Grichuk has a .265/.278/.471 slash line with one home run, four doubles, six RBI and four runs over 36 plate appearances.

Grichuk provided what eventually turned out to be the game-winning hit with a second-inning home run, his first of the season. He's started four consecutive games; the first three were against lefties, as expected, before Tuesday's start against a right-hander. Grichuk got the start in place of a resting Lourdes Gurriel.
