Gary Sanchez: Crew declines option
The Brewers declined Sanchez's $11 million mutual option for 2025 on Saturday, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
Sanchez slashed .220/.307/.392 across 280 plate appearances in 2024 while serving as Milwaukee's backup catcher behind William Contreras. Rather than keeping Sanchez in town for another year on an $8 million raise, the Brewers will move on from the 31-year old backstop and perhaps look to Eric Haase to fill his place. Meanwhile, Sanchez's power bat may draw attention from several teams this offseason.

Brewers' Gary Sanchez: Blasts 10th home run
Sanchez went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Saturday's 5-2 win over the Rockies.
Sanchez set the tone for the Brewers early, following up Willy Adames' solo homer in the first inning with a shot of his own. His 10th homer of the year was just his third in 36 home games thus far. Sanchez got his first hit since Aug. 25, after he had gone 0-for-15 in his previous five games. The 31-year-old catcher has now hit 10 or more home runs in each of the last nine seasons.

Brewers' Gary Sanchez: Not in Tuesday's lineup
Sanchez isn't in the Brewers' lineup for Tuesday's game against San Francisco.
Sanchez went 3-for-6 with a homer and five RBI during Milwaukee's previous series against the Athletics, and he'll now get a breather to open the Brewers' three-game set against the Giants. In his place, Jake Bauers will serve as the designated hitter and bat fourth.

Brewers' Gary Sanchez: Blasts ninth homer in defeat
Sanchez went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run and a walk during Sunday's 4-3 loss against the A's.
Sanchez cleared the fence for the ninth time this season and has now driven in five runs and scored three over his last two starts. Sanchez has collected at least one hit in 10 of his last 11 starts while his .243 batting average on the season is the best he's posted since 2017 while with the Yankees.

Sanchez is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against Oakland.
Sanchez went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI in Friday's 11-3 win over the Athletics. For the month of August, he is slashing .313/.450/.500 with six runs scored, seven walks, one home run and eight RBI across 40 plate appearances. Rhys Hoskins will serve as the designated hitter and bat sixth.

Brewers' Gary Sanchez: Late homer not enough
Sanchez went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run during Sunday's 4-3 loss to Washington.
Sanchez went yard for the first time since being activated from the 10-day injured list July 24, tagging Robert Garcia for a two-run shot to bring the Brewers within one run in the eighth inning. Sanchez has logged an RBI in four consecutive games, going 5-for-12 at the plate during that stretch. He has eight home runs on the year.

Brewers' Gary Sanchez: Returns from IL
The Brewers activated Sanchez (calf) from the 10-day injured list Wednesday.
Sanchez missed the previous month of action with a strained left calf. The Brewers will carry three catchers for the time being, which will give the team the option of using Sanchez, William Contreras or Eric Haase at designated hitter on days they're not catching.

Brewers' Gary Sanchez: Expected back Wednesday
Manager Pat Murphy said Tuesday that Sanchez (calf) is expected to return from the injured list Wednesday, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
A left calf strain forced Sanchez onto the IL in late June, and he has since gone 1-for-6 with a walk through two rehab games at Triple-A Nashville. Once activated, the 31-year-old backstop will presumably reclaim his role as Milwaukee's backup catcher, replacing Eric Haase.

Brewers' Gary Sanchez: Beginning rehab assignment
Sanchez (calf) was sent to Triple-A Nashville on Friday to begin a rehab assignment, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
Brewers manager Pat Murphy indicated last week that Sanchez was well ahead of schedule in his recovery, and he appears to be in the home stretch. Sanchez's rehab assignment comes three and a half weeks after he suffered a strained left calf, and while he'll likely be eased into catching duties, he could be activated in late July or early August.

Brewers' Gary Sanchez: Improved prognosis
Brewers manager Pat Murphy said Wednesday that Sanchez was initially expected to miss 12 weeks with his left calf strain, but the veteran catcher could make his return from the 10-day injured list in as few as six weeks, Jack Stern of BrewerFanatic.com reports.
The 31-year-old landed on the shelf in late June, though there was no inkling at the time he was dealing with an especially serious injury. Murphy didn't provide a precise target date for Sanchez's return, but at the very least, he shouldn't be expected back prior to the All-Star break.

Brewers' Gary Sanchez: Placed on IL with calf strain
The Brewers placed Sanchez on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with a left calf strain, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
Though the Brewers are labeling Sanchez's injury as a low-grade strain, he wasn't going to be available to play for several days, so Milwaukee opted to deactivate him. Sanchez will be eligible to return July 4, but it's not clear yet whether he'll be ready on that date. Eric Haase was called up from Triple-A Nashville and will step in as the No. 2 option at catcher behind William Contreras.

Brewers' Gary Sanchez: Scratched with calf tightness
Sanchez was scratched from the lineup Tuesday against the Rangers due to left calf tightness, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
The veteran slugger was penciled in as Milwaukee's designated hitter, but he'll instead hit the bench due to the injury. Sanchez should be considered day-to-day heading into Wednesday's series finale versus Texas, which is followed by a team day off Thursday. Rhys Hoskins will now serve as the DH on Tuesday while Jake Bauers starts at first base.

Brewers' Gary Sanchez: Taking seat Monday
Sanchez is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Phillies.
Sanchez had started at designated hitter or catcher in four of the Brewers' previous five games, but he'll hit the bench for the series opener in Philadelphia. The 31-year-old should still have a fairly clear path to a regular spot in the lineup versus left-handed pitching, but opportunities to start against righties could be harder to come by following Rhys Hoskins' recent return from the injured list.

Brewers' Gary Sanchez: Playing time trending up
Sanchez will start at catcher and will bat sixth in Sunday's game against the Red Sox.
He'll be included in the lineup for the fifth time in six games, with three of those starts coming versus left-handed pitching and two coming versus righties. Though William Contreras remains the Brewers' clear top backstop, look for Milwaukee to continue to find room in the lineup for both Contreras and Sanchez between catcher and DH while the latter is continuing to excel at the plate. Over 103 plate appearances on the season, Sanchez is hitting .228 with nine extra-base hits (six home runs, three doubles).
