  • Nathan Eovaldi: Declines player option

Eovaldi declined his $20 million player option for 2025, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports. While that means Eovaldi is now a free agent, Rangers president of baseball operations Chris Young said Monday that the club has "great interest" in re-signing the veteran right-hander. Eovaldi, who turns 35 in February, holds a 3.72 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 298:89 K:BB over 314.2 innings covering 54 regular-season starts during his two seasons with the Rangers.

  • Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Tosses seven shutout innings

Eovaldi (12-8) allowed four hits and a walk over seven scoreless innings Sunday, striking out five and earning a win over the Angels. Eovaldi escaped a bases-loaded jam in the first inning but didn't face much danger otherwise. He had been tagged for 14 runs over 16.2 innings in his previous three outings before closing out his 2024 season with a terrific outing Sunday. It was the fourth time this season he threw at least seven innings without allowing a run. Eovaldi finishes the season with a 3.80 ERA and a 166:42 K:BB through 170.2 innings. He's finished each of the last five seasons with an ERA between 3.63 and 3.87.

  • Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Works through seven innings

Eovaldi did not factor into the decision in Tuesday's loss to the Athletics, allowing four runs (three earned) on four hits and three walks while striking out seven in seven innings. The Athletics plated a pair of runs against Eovaldi in the first, another in the third and then scratched across one more in the sixth stemming from an error earlier in the inning. Eovaldi only allowed four hits, two of which came in the first inning, and his seven strikeouts were his second most in eight starts since Aug. 10. Eovaldi is now winless in his last three starts and holds a 7.56 ERA over that span. For the year, he holds a 3.96 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 161:41 K:BB in 163.2 innings and lines up to face the Angels over the weekend in his final start of the year.

  • Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Lit up in no-decision

Eovaldi allowed seven runs on 11 hits and two walks while striking out four over 4.2 innings in a no-decision versus the Blue Jays on Tuesday. The two teams traded rallies in the contest -- Eovaldi was tagged for four runs in the fifth inning just after the Rangers had established a lead. This was one of Eovaldi's worst performances of the year, as the seven runs and 11 hits allowed were both season highs. His ERA is up to 3.96 with a 1.13 WHIP and 154:38 K:BB through 156.2 innings over 27 starts. He posted four straight quality starts from Aug. 17 to Sept. 4, but he's struggled in two straight outings. He'll look to get back on track in his next projected start, which is expected to be in Oakland with the Rangers seemingly shifting to a six-man rotation to close out the campaign.

  • Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: No help in Tuesday's loss

Eovaldi (11-8) allowed four runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out six over five innings to take the loss versus the Diamondbacks on Tuesday. Eovaldi gave up back-to-back home runs to Joc Pederson and Christian Walker in the first inning, and Walker got to him for a two-run blast in the third as well. This was the first time in six starts that Eovaldi had given up multiple homers, something he's done just five times this season. His three-start winning streak came to an end, and he now has a 3.67 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 150:36 K:BB through 152 innings over 26 starts this season. Eovaldi's next start is projected to be at home versus the Blue Jays, as the Rangers will build in some rest for their starters with the returns of Jacob deGrom (elbow) and Max Scherzer (shoulder) during this weekend's four-game series versus the Mariners.

  • Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Strong in win over Yankees

Eovaldi (11-7) allowed two runs on four hits and three walks while striking out six over seven innings to earn the win Wednesday over the Yankees. Eovaldi was able to limit the damage to a two-run home run by Juan Soto in the fifth inning. This was Eovaldi's fourth straight quality start, and he's allowed nine runs (eight earned) across 27 innings while striking 27 in that span. He now has a 3.55 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 144:35 K:BB through 147 innings over 25 starts this season. Eovaldi is projected to make his next start at Arizona.

  • Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Dominant in tenth win

Eovaldi (10-7) pitched seven scoreless innings in Thurday's win over the White Sox. He gave up one hit, two walks and struck out 10. Eovaldi made easy work of the White Sox again Thursday, as it's the second time this season he's recorded 10 punchouts against them. It was the 34-year-old's second career start of seven or more scoreless innings with double-digit strikeouts. Eovaldi has won back-to-back starts after a streak of three straight losses, and he now has 10 or more wins in three of his last four seasons.

  • Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Victorious with quality start

Eovaldi (9-7) yielded three runs on seven hits and a walk over six innings Friday, striking out five and earning a win over the Guardians. Eovaldi coughed up a run in each of the second, third and fourth innings but came out on top due to the Rangers' four-run second frame. He snapped his three-start losing streak and picked up his first win since July 29. Through 16 starts, he owned an impressive 2.97 ERA over 94 innings. In seven outings since, he's produced a 5.77 ERA despite a strong 36:4 K:BB over 39 frames. Eovaldi will carry a 3.79 ERA into his next matchup, which is projected to be on the road against the White Sox.

  • Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Fades late Saturday

Eovaldi (8-7) allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits and no walks while striking out six batters over seven-plus innings to take the loss against Minnesota on Saturday. Eovaldi didn't give up a run until Trevor Larnach tagged him for a solo homer in the fourth. The right-hander cruised through the next three innings without giving up another score and carried a 2-1 lead into the eighth. However, Eovaldi allowed three straight singles in that frame before being pulled with the bases loaded and no outs. All three baserunners then came around to score after his departure. It was a tough finish for Eovaldi, who was hit with his third straight loss. During that span, he's allowed 12 runs (11 earned) over 15 frames despite a strong 17:3 K:BB.

  • Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Good to go for Saturday

Manager Bruce Bochy said Wednesday that Eovaldi (oblique) will make his next start Saturday against the Twins, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports. Eovaldi suffered a low-grade right oblique strain during his most recent start this past Saturday versus the Yankees, but he was able to throw a bullpen session Wednesday without any problems. Now seemingly past the oblique injury, he'll receive a few extra days of rest before returning to the Texas rotation. Eovaldi will match up against a Twins offense that ranks fourth in the American League with a .755 OPS for the season.

  • Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Has low-grade strain, should avoid IL

Eovaldi was diagnosed with a low-grade right oblique strain Monday and is expected to have his next start pushed back to the Rangers' four-game series with the Twins this weekend, Jim Bowden of The Athletic reports. After being pulled from his latest start this past Saturday against the Yankees with what the Rangers described as right side tightness, Eovaldi was sent back to Texas to meet with Dr. Keith Meister. Eovaldi received encouraging results from his MRI, and the Rangers are apparently optimistic that he will avoid a trip to the injured list and be able to pitch through the oblique strain. While the right-hander doesn't sound like he'll be an option to take the hill for Thursday's series opener versus Minnesota on his usual four days' rest, he could be plugged back into the rotation at some point Friday through Sunday. The Rangers will likely wait for Eovaldi to complete a bullpen session later this week before locking him in for his next start.

  • Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Exam on tap, next start in doubt

Rangers general manager Chris Young said Sunday that Eovaldi (side) will return to Texas to visit with team physician Dr. Keith Meister before a determination is made if he'll be able to make his next start, MLB.com reports. "The hope is that [Eovaldi's side injury is] something that can be managed," Young said. "He's feeling OK [Sunday]. Actually, better than he was, I think, a couple of days ago. It's something he thinks he can pitch through. We're just not sure we want to make him do so. We may end up pushing him back or skipping a start. We don't think it's an IL at this point, but we will clearly decide that once he sees Dr. Meister." Eovaldi started Saturday but was lifted after just three innings due to right side tightness in the Rangers' 8-0 loss to the Yankees in the first game of a doubleheader. While more information on Eovaldi's next steps won't be available until he meets with Dr. Meister, the right-hander's availability for his next turn through the rotation would appear to be in doubt at the moment. Eovaldi tentatively lines up to take the hill either Thursday or Friday versus the Twins, but the Rangers would likely have to call upon Cody Bradford to make another turn through the rotation if Eovaldi can't go.

  • Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Dealing with side tightness

Manager Bruce Bochy said that Eovaldi was removed early from his start in Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader due to right side tightness, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports. Eovaldi was able to get through only three innings in his start Saturday, during which he allowed three runs on six hits and two walks while striking out four batters. It's unclear how his injury will impact his status for his next scheduled start -- tentatively slated to come next week versus Minnesota -- but more will be known once the Rangers get an opportunity to take a closer look at him.

  • Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Yields five runs in loss

Eovaldi (8-5) allowed five runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out seven over five-plus innings to take the loss Sunday versus the Red Sox. Eovaldi landed 66 of 99 pitches for strikes, but he gave up solo home runs to Wilyer Abreu and Jarren Duran. He ran into more trouble in the sixth inning, and Walter Pennington allowed two inherited runners to score, giving Eovaldi a mediocre outing. The right-handed starter has allowed 16 runs over 23 innings across his last four starts, a span that has also seen him yield seven homers. For the year, he's posted a 3.62 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 113:27 K:BB across 117 innings over 20 starts. He's given up 17 long balls this year after surrendering just 15 over 144 innings in 2023, so it's something to monitor going forward. Eovaldi's next outing is projected to be a challenging one on the road versus the Yankees.

  • Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Earns eighth win

Eovaldi (8-4) picked up the win Monday in St. Louis, allowing three runs on six hits and no walks over six innings. He struck out two. The grizzled veteran collected his 10th quality start of the season in this 82-pitch outing. Despite generating 11 whiffs, Eovaldi managed just two punchouts, equaling a season low reached twice previously. The 34-year-old closes out a stellar month of July over which he didn't walk a batter across 39 innings, pitching to a 3.23 ERA and 0.79 WHIP with 32 strikeouts. Eovaldi is currently scheduled to make his next start against the Red Sox at home this weekend.

  • Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Fans 10 in victory

Eovaldi (7-4) picked up the win over the White Sox on Wednesday, allowing two runs on four hits over seven innings while striking out 10. Eovaldi struck out four of the first eight batters he faced on the night but coughed up runs in both the second and third innings. Fortunately for the right-hander, he was able to shake it off and cruise through the next four frames while allowing just one more hit over that span. Eovaldi induced 20 whiffs in the contest en route to posting a season-high 10 strikeouts. He's now gone seven innings in five of his last six starts and currently holds an absurd 30:0 K:BB in July. On the downside, he's also surrendered at least one home run in back-to-back starts and in three of his last four.

  • Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Settles for no-decision Saturday

Eovaldi came away with a no-decision in Saturday's 2-1 extra-inning win over the Astros, allowing one run on eight hits over seven innings. He struck out seven without walking a batter. The veteran righty was outstanding, firing 68 of 95 pitches for strikes en route to his third straight quality start and eighth of the year, but Eovaldi got little run support. He's lasted at least six innings in five straight trips to the mound, going 3-0 over that stretch and giving the Rangers bullpen a break while posting a 2.65 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and dazzling 28:2 K:BB over 34 innings.

  • Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Blanks Friars for fifth win

Eovaldi (5-3) picked up the win in Tuesday's 7-0 victory over the Padres, allowing just one hit over seven scoreless innings. He struck out six without walking a batter. Bryce Johnson's third-inning single spoiled any shot Eovaldi might have had at making history, but the right-hander still put together a dominant performance before leaving the mound after 92 pitches (61 strikes). The quality start was his sixth of the year, and Eovaldi will take a 3.15 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 80:26 K:BB through 80 innings into his next outing, which is scheduled to come at home this weekend against the Rays.

  • Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Yields five runs in no-decision

Eovaldi didn't factor into the decision Wednesday against Milwaukee, allowing five runs on nine hits and a walk over seven innings. He struck out four. Eovaldi had a troublesome third inning, allowing Jackson Chourio to reach on a leadoff single before letting Christian Yelich and Willy Adames get on base with two outs, leading to a Jake Bauers grand slam. The other run charged to Eovaldi came in the fourth frame, when Derek Hill couldn't make a diving catch in center field, allowing Chourio to get all the way around the bases for an inside-the-park home run. Eovaldi's five runs allowed tied his season high, and he's allowed a home run in five consecutive starts. Overall, he owns a 3.45 ERA and 74 strikeouts across 73.0 innings. He's on track to face the Padres in Arlington early next week.

  • Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Wins with quality start

Eovaldi (4-3) yielded two runs on four hits and a walk over six innings Friday, striking out six and earning a win over the Royals. Eovaldi coughed up a solo shot to Kyle Isbel in the third inning and gave up one other run in the fifth. Since returning from the injured list, Eovaldi has produced a 4.01 ERA while going 2-1 through five starts, turning in two quality starts in his last three outings. He forced 15 whiffs Friday, his best total since April 20. The veteran righty owns a 3.14 ERA with a 70:25 K:BB through 66 innings this season. Eovaldi's next start is lined up to come in Baltimore.
