Rays' Erasmo Ramirez: Remains in organization
Ramirez cleared waivers Tuesday and accepted an assignment to Triple-A Durham.
The right-hander was designated for assignment by Tampa Bay over the weekend, but he'll stick in the organization after passing through waivers unclaimed. Ramirez has made 13 appearances with the Rays this season and posted a 4.35 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 15:10 K:BB across 20.2 innings.

Just five days after joining the active roster, Ramirez will now lose his spot on the 40-man after allowing two runs and striking out six batters while walking four in 4.2 innings. Ramirez will begin his second stint with the Rays of the season, as he was previously called up from Triple-A on April 20 and produced a 4.50 ERA and 1.06 WHIP over 16 innings before being cast off the 40-man roster about a month later. Ramirez is expected to have his contract selected from Triple-A Durham on Monday, Ari Alexander of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Ramirez was sent down in late May, but he'll return to the big leagues after producing a 3.20 ERA and 1.25 WHIP with 44 strikeouts over 39.1 innings in 27 appearances with Durham following his demotion. Ramirez followed starter Tyler Alexander into the game in the fifth inning and turned in his second consecutive scoreless appearance. Ramirez has worked primarily in long relief since being recalled to the Rays on April 21, as he's completed at least two frames in four of his six outings. Despite limited strikeout upside -- he has eight punchouts across 11.1 innings of work -- he could be in position to earn more wins than a traditional reliever.

Ramirez has allowed two earned runs and struck out 13 batters across 8.1 innings at Triple-A, and his hot start has now earned him a spot in the Rays' bullpen. The Rays could end up deploying Ramirez behind an opener Friday, but either way, he'll be slated to cover multiple innings in the first game of the series in Anaheim. Ramirez will be pitching on two days' rest, though he shouldn't be too tired after tossing just 18 pitches in one frame during his relief appearance in Tuesday's 7-0 loss to the Giants. Ramirez threw a season-high 58 pitches to get the game started off for the Rays. Since getting called up from Triple-A Durham a week ago, Ramirez made three-inning and two-inning appearances out of the bullpen, but he'll be called upon to make a spot start on short notice after Tyler Glasnow experienced back spasms late Saturday that will prevent him from taking the hill Sunday. Since he'll be pitching on three days' rest and hasn't covered more than four innings in any of his appearances in the majors or minors this season, Ramirez is unlikely to work deep enough into the start to qualify for a win. The Rays don't have an obvious candidate to work in bulk relief behind Ramirez and may be treating Sunday's contest as more of a bullpen day.
