Chad Bettis: Announces retirement
Bettis (back) has retired from baseball, Nick Groke of The Athletic reports.
He said he pushed his body as far as it could go and walks away from the game with his head held high. Bettis, 31, had a 5.12 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 431 strikeouts in 600.2 career innings, all with the Rockies.

Yankees' Chad Bettis: Out with back injury
Bettis is dealing with a back injury and it is unclear when he will be ready to pitch in games, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
He has resumed a throwing program, but it sounds like he is a little worse than day-to-day. Bettis signed a minor-league deal with the Yankees with the hopes of winning one of the final spots in the big-league bullpen, but that seems unlikely given his unavailability so far this spring.

Yankees' Chad Bettis: Lands with Yankees
Bettis (hip) signed a minor-league contract with the Yankees on Saturday as a non-roster invitee, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports.
Bettis is coming off hip surgery that ended his 2019 season early, but he'll get a chance to compete in major-league camp pending a physical. His production trended in the wrong direction last year as he posted a 6.08 ERA and 1.55 WHIP, but the reliever will look to turn things around in 2020. It wouldn't be surprising to see the right-hander in the majors at some point in 2020 if he can regain some of the production he's had in the past.

Chad Bettis: Elects free agency
Bettis (hip) cleared outright waivers and elected free agency Wednesday.
Bettis underwent surgery on both hips at the end of August, but he's expected to have a normal offseason and be at full strength once spring training begins. The right-hander was outrighted by the Rockies after posting a 6.08 ERA with a 1.55 WHIP over 63.2 innings pitched in the majors last season.

Rockies' Chad Bettis: Expects to be ready for spring
Bettis (hip) is expected to be at full strength for the beginning of spring training, Kyle Newman of The Denver Post reports.
Bettis' season came to an end after he underwent surgery on both hips at the end of August, but the right-hander doesn't anticipate missing any time next season. "It's going to be a normal offseason for me," stated Bettis. "My weight lifting might get pushed back a little bit, and my throwing is looking like it's going to line up to start in December-ish. Everybody's intent is that I'll be back in spring training games ready to go, fully normal, and be ready for Opening Day." Bettis began the season in the starting rotation, but he quickly was moved to the bullpen. He finished the 2019 campaign with a 6.08 ERA and 1.55 WHIP with a 42:21 K:BB over 63.2 innings.

Rockies' Chad Bettis: Shifts to 60-day IL
Bettis (hip) was moved to the 60-day injured list Tuesday.
This move is simply procedural, as Bettis has already been ruled out for the remainder of the season. Rico Garcia took Bettis' place on the 40-man roster.

Rockies' Chad Bettis: Set for season-ending surgery
Bettis will undergo season-ending surgery Tuesday on both hips, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
Bettis landed on the injured list last week and wasn't provided a timetable for his return, but he'll now be lost for the rest of the season after going under the knife. The 30-year-old finishes 2019 with a 6.08 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and 42:21 K:BB over 63.2 innings.

Rockies' Chad Bettis: Heads to injured list
Bettis was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left hip impingement, retroactive to Aug. 14.
With the backdated stint, Bettis will be eligible to return as soon as next Saturday. It's uncertain when the Rockies expect him back. Chi Chi Gonzalez was recalled in a corresponding move to take Bettis' spot in the bullpen.

Rockies' Chad Bettis: Gets save against Diamondbacks
Bettis picked up the save against the Diamondbacks on Tuesday, throwing two scoreless innings without allowing a baserunner to close out Colorado's 6-2 victory. He struck out two.
With Wade Davis (oblique) on the injured list, Scott Oberg was tabbed as the fill-in closer, but it was Bettis who came in for a two-inning save in this contest. It was his first of the season. Bettis has been pitching well in his relief role of late, as he's logged five scoreless efforts in his last six appearances, four of which have seen him toss more than one inning. Thanks to his rough start to the season, he's still sporting a 4.83 ERA and 1.52 WHIP over 31.2 innings.

Rockies' Chad Bettis: Tagged with extra-innings loss
Bettis (1-3) failed to record an out, allowing a run on two hits and a walk to take the loss in Wednesday's 6-5, extra-innings loss to the Red Sox.
Bettis has allowed four runs (three earned) and 11 hits over six innings in his last six appearances, striking out four batters. For the season, the 30-year-old right-hander has a 6.56 ERA and 1.80 WHIP in 10 appearances (three starts).

Rockies' Chad Bettis: Fares well in long relief
Bettis tossed three perfect innings in relief during Monday's 7-5 win over the Nationals.
Bettis didn't factor in the Rockies' come-from-behind victory, but he can be credited for an assist in the win that went to reliever Seunghwan Oh. After starter Tyler Anderson labored through the first three innings, Bettis worked efficiently while generating seven groundball outs. The 37-pitch appearance probably takes Bettis out of the mix for a spot start Tuesday, with Triple-A Albuquerque pitcher Jeff Hoffman now looking like the top candidate to fill the opening in the rotation vacated by Kyle Freeland (finger).

Rockies' Chad Bettis: Moved to bullpen
Bettis has been moved from the starting rotation to the bullpen, Nick Groke of The Athletic reports.
Bettis has struggled to start the season, with an 8.78 ERA in 13.1 innings, and will move to a relief role as the Rockies get set for the return of Tyler Anderson (knee). He could find himself back in the rotation in the event of another injury or if the Rockies need him to make a spot start, but his early-season struggles and 5.10 ERA over 550.1 innings in his career make him difficult to trust, even if he does work his way back in the mix as a starter.

Rockies' Chad Bettis: Gives up two runs over five
Bettis allowed two runs on six hits and two walks while striking out four over five innings in a no-decision against the Giants on Friday.
Bettis was the first of 10 Rockies pitchers to appear in a game that went 18 innings. It was by no means a dominant performance, but it was a big improvement on his first two outings (11 earned over 8.1 innings). Bettis threw first-pitch strikes to 15 of 19 batters and got nine swinging strikes on 75 pitches. He will look to keep it going in his next outing, which looks to be at home against Philadelphia.

Rockies' Chad Bettis: Yanked in third inning
Bettis (0-2) allowed six runs (five earned) on seven hits and four walks in just 2.2 innings of work Sunday. He took the loss against the Dodgers.
Bettis also failed to strike out a single batter in the hideous outing. It was absolutely a start to forget, especially after allowing six runs in his last start as well. The 29-year-old righty owns an ERA just shy of 12.00 in 8.1 innings of work. He'll attempt to turn things around against the Giants on Friday.

Rockies' Chad Bettis: Chased after six runs
Bettis (0-1) yielded six runs in 5.1 innings while taking the loss against the Rays on Monday. He struck out five while walking two and allowing seven hits, including two homers.
Bettis cruised through three scoreless innings before Brandon Lowe took him deep for a two-run shot during the fourth frame. He later coughed up a three-run shot to Kevin Kiermaier and failed to finish the sixth inning. With this dreadful start and the fact that he posted an ERA over 5.00 in 2017 and 2018, Bettis shouldn't be on many fantasy radars. He'll likely face a tough Dodgers lineup Sunday.

Rockies' Chad Bettis: Confirmed as Monday's starter
Bettis (neck) will start Monday against the Rays, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.
Bettis battled a stiff neck late in camp, but the issue wasn't expected to be serious. He earned the Rockies' fifth-starter job after posting a 3.38 ERA in 16 spring innings, but he'll have to pitch well to hold off Antonio Senzatela, who opened the season on the injured list due to a foot blister.
