  • Yankees' Max Fried: Seven strikeouts in win

Fried (3-0) earned the win Tuesday against the Royals, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out seven across 6.2 innings.

Both of the runs Fried yielded came in the third inning, including a solo homer by MJ Melendez. Fried managed to settle in and did not give up a run for the rest of his outing, coming away with a second-straight quality start. The 31-year-old southpaw ranks third in the majors with 28 strikeouts and has opened his Yankees tenure with a 1.88 ERA and 1.17 WHIP across 24 innings. Fried will look to make it three wins in a row in his next start, which is slated for this weekend on the road against the Rays.

  • Yankees' Max Fried: Fans 11 in Wednesday's win

Fried (2-0) picked up the win in Wednesday's 4-3 victory over the Tigers, scattering five hits over seven scoreless innings. He struck out 11 without walking a batter.

In a battle of high-school teammates between Fried and Detroit right-hander Jack Flaherty, both of whom attended Harvard-Westlake in Los Angeles, it was the southpaw who eventually came out on top. Fried fired 66 of 97 pitches for strikes while racking up 36 called or swinging strikes in his best performance yet in pinstripes, and his first quality start of the season. Fried will take a 1.56 ERA and dominant 21:3 K:BB through 17.1 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come at home early next week against the Royals.

  • Yankees' Max Fried: Strikes out six in win

Fried (1-0) earned the win Friday over the Pirates, allowing one run on six hits and a walk while striking out six over 5.2 innings.

The blemish on his line was a Bryan Reynolds solo home run in the third inning. Fried came away with a win after just missing the victory by one out in his season debut last Saturday versus the Brewers. The southpaw instead came up one out short of a quality start Friday. He's giving up a few too many baserunners early in the season, allowing 13 hits and three walks while striking out 10 over his first 10.1 innings. Fried is projected for a road start in Detroit next week.

  • Yankees' Max Fried: Misses win due to shaky defense

Fried didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 20-9 win over the Brewers, giving up six runs (two earned) on seven hits and two walks over 4.2 innings. He struck out four.

While the left-hander got more than enough offense to record a win in his Yankees debut, the New York defense committed five errors on the day, resulting in an elevated pitch count for Fried -- he exited after 94 pitches (56 strikes). Fried failed to last five innings in either of his first two outings of 2024, so slow starts to a season are nothing new for the 31-year-old. He'll try to provide a little more length in his next start, which is scheduled to come next weekend in Pittsburgh.

  • Yankees' Max Fried: Hurls 78 pitches in final tune-up

Fried completed 5.1 innings in a Grapefruit League game against Tampa Bay on Sunday, allowing three runs on four hits and three walks while striking out four batters.

Fried fell behind early when he served up a two-run home run to Junior Caminero in the first inning, but the star hurler allowed just one more run (and no additional extra-base hits) during the remainder of his outing. Fried pitched well during his first spring with the Yankees, compiling a 3.38 ERA, 0.81 WHIP and 12:4 K:BB over 16 innings. The next time he takes the mound in a game, the lefty will be making his regular-season debut for New York. That start is expected to take place Saturday versus Milwaukee.

  • Yankees' Max Fried: Excels in second spring start

Fried pitched four innings in a Grapefruit League game against Detroit on Thursday, allowing one run on one hit while striking out three batters.

Fried gave up a solo home run to Gleyber Torres with one out in the first inning, but the Tigers were unable to put any additional runners on base against him. The southpaw threw 35 of his 57 pitches for strikes and sat at 94 mph with his fastball, per Statcast. Fried's role in the Yankees' rotation has taken on added importance with Gerrit Cole (elbow) slated to miss the entire 2025 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery Thursday. Fried figures to slot in as New York's ace following Cole's injury, though the Yankees may opt to keep Fried on schedule and have another hurler start on Opening Day, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

  • Yankees' Max Fried: Hurls 49 pitches in spring debut

Fried tossed 2.1 innings in a Grapefruit League game against Pittsburgh on Monday, allowing two runs on two hits and one walk while striking out two batters.

Fried's stat line in his first appearance in a Yankees uniform wasn't spectacular, though both runs that were charged to him crossed the plate after his third-inning exit. The southpaw threw 31 of his 49 pitches for strikes, with 29 of his offerings being four-seam fastballs and sinkers. Fried is penciled in to join Gerrit Cole atop the Yankees' rotation after signing an eight-year contract with New York during the offseason.
