  • Braves' Max Fried: Slated for Game 2 start

Fried will start Wednesday in Game 2 of the National League Wild Card Series against the Padres, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.

Atlanta is going with AJ Smith-Shawver in Game 1 before turning to Fried on regular rest for Game 2. The veteran left-hander closed out his regular season in fine fashion, collecting a 2.14 ERA with a 36:7 K:BB over 33.2 innings in five September outings. Fried will be opposed by Joe Musgrove in Game 2.

  • Braves' Max Fried: Brilliant in 11th win

Fried (11-10) earned the win Friday versus Kansas City, completing 8.2 scoreless innings while allowing three hits and two walks. He struck out nine.

The Atlanta southpaw fell one out short of his third complete game and second shutout of 2024, as he picked up his 16th quality start. No one in the Royals lineup could square up Fried except for Michael Massey, who collected his team's only extra-base hits with two doubles. Fried has carried Atlanta down the stretch, completing six or more innings in each of his last six starts while delivering a 2.43 ERA over 40.2 innings. The 30-year-old wraps up his eighth MLB season with a 3.25 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 166:57 K:BB across 174.1 innings, setting him up very nicely for free agency this offseason.

  • Braves' Max Fried: Sharp in 10th win

Fried (10-10) picked up the win Saturday, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits and a walk over six innings in a 6-2 victory over the Marlins. He struck out six.

The lefty delivered his second straight quality start and fourth in his last five outings on 100 pitches (69 strikes), but Fried left the mound with the score tied 2-2 before Atlanta's offense erupted in the top of the seventh to get him the win. Over his last eight trips to the mound, Fried has posted a 3.10 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 47:13 K:BB through 49.1 innings. With Atlanta trying to catch the Mets for the final wild-card spot in the NL, his final outing of the regular season could be a big one -- it comes at home next weekend against the Royals.
