Yankees' Max Fried: Named Opening Day starter
Fried allowed one run on two hits while striking out six over four innings during Monday's exhibition against the Pirates. Manager Aaron Boone stated after the game that Fried will start on Opening Day, Jack Curry of YES Network reports.
This is an unsurprising development for Fried, who turned in yet another solid spring appearance Monday evening. He didn't disappoint in his first season in the Bronx one year ago, as he posted a 2.86 ERA and 1.10 WHIP with a 189:51 K:BB across 195.1 regular-season innings. It's also worth noting that the southpaw was able to remain healthy in 2025, resulting in career highs in starts, innings pitched, wins and strikeouts during the regular season.

Yankees' Max Fried: Covers three frames in spring debut
Fried allowed one hit and three walks while striking out one across three scoreless innings during Tuesday's exhibition game against Team Panama.
The three free passes would have tied Fried's season high from 2025, but it's not a major surprise for him to be shaking off some rust in his first start of spring training. The left-hander was as advertised during his first year with the Yankees last year, finishing the regular season with a 2.86 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 189:51 K:BB across 195.1 innings. Fried worked up to 56 pitches Tuesday and will continue building up his workload over the next few weeks.

Yankees' Max Fried: Ineffective in Game 2
Fried pitched three innings, allowing seven runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out one batter in Sunday's 13-7 loss to the Blue Jays in Game 2 of the ALDS.
Fried was able to toss a scoreless first inning before the wheels quickly fell off thereafter. The left-hander allowed two runs in the second and three in the third, and he was ultimately removed from the game after allowing the first two batters to reach in the bottom of the fourth. The outing matched Fried's shortest of the year, while the seven runs given up also matched a season high for the 29-year-old.
