Ryu signed an eight-year, $12.4 million contract Wednesday with the Hanwha Eagles of the Korea Baseball Organization, Jee-ho Yoo of the Yonhap News Agency reports.
Ryu will turn 37 years old in March, and after signing a long-term deal overseas, his time in the majors is almost assuredly over. Assuming Ryu's deal doesn't contain an early out clause that would allow him to explore opportunities in North America, he'll finish his MLB career with a 3.27 ERA and 1.18 WHIP across 11 seasons spent with the Dodgers and Blue Jays.

Ryu started 11 games for the Blue Jays this past season after completing his recovery from June 2022 Tommy John surgery, posting a 3.46 ERA and 1.29 WHIP with a 38:14 K:BB across 52 innings. The 36-year-old became a free agent this offseason, and after apparently not receiving any MLB offers to his liking, he's elected to return to the KBO, where he began his professional career before heading to North America in 2013. Though the length of his deal with Hanwha isn't known, given his advancing age, Ryu's MLB career could well be over.

Two of the long balls came in the first inning, as Ryu served up a solo shot to Yandy Diaz and a three-run blast to Josh Lowe. The veteran southpaw avoided his fourth loss of the season when the Blue Jays took the lead in the top of the eighth inning, only for closer Jordan Romano to blow the save in the ninth.
