Red Sox's Lucas Sims: Activated from injured list
The Red Sox activated Sims (lat) from the 15-day injured list Thursday, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.
Sims missed a little more than three weeks of time with a right lat strain but has been cleared to rejoin the Boston bullpen after making a couple rehab appearances with Triple-A Worcester. He's collected an 8.10 ERA in 11 outings for the Red Sox and will likely be pegged for middle relief.

Red Sox's Lucas Sims: Begins rehab assignment
Sims (lat) walked two and recorded a strikeout in one-third of an inning in his first rehab appearance with Triple-A Worcester on Sunday.
Sims is three weeks removed from going on the 15-day injured list with a right lat strain, but he's ramping up in the minors and could be ready to rejoin the Boston bullpen by the end of the week. The right-hander has struggled with Boston since being acquired at the trade deadline, allowing nine runs with a 7:7 K:BB over 10 innings.

Red Sox's Lucas Sims: Placed on IL with lat strain
The Red Sox placed Sims on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with a right lat strain, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.
Sims has been terrible since being acquired at the trade deadline, surrendering nine runs with a 7:7 K:BB over 10 innings. Now he will be sidelined for at least the next couple weeks, and in all likelihood, longer.

Red Sox's Lucas Sims: Unable to hold lead
Sims allowed one run on two hits and two walks while striking out one over one inning, picking up a blown save in Monday's 5-4 loss to Houston.
The Red Sox seemingly were in control late, but the bullpen -- Sims and Kenley Jansen -- allowed the Astros to tie and then win the game in the final two innings. With two outs and the bases empty in the eighth inning, Sims allowed back-to-back hits that erased Boston's one-run lead. Sims was added at the trade deadline to help a faltering bullpen, and he's done fine when not facing the Astros. In three appearances against Houston while in a Boston uniform, Sims has allowed six runs on six hits and three walks over 3.1 innings.

Red Sox's Lucas Sims: Debuts in high-leverage spot
Sims allowed one walk over a scoreless two-thirds of an inning in Wednesday's 3-2 extra-inning win over Seattle.
Sims replaced starter Brayan Bello with one out in the seventh inning and runners at the corners. He sandwiched a walk around a short flyout and a groundout to get out of the inning. It was Sims' debut for the Red Sox, who acquired him ahead of Tuesday's trade deadline. Boston's bullpen has been the primary culprit of the team's 3-8 start coming out of the All-Star break, and Sims is expected to help. He'll be used in high-leverage spots ahead of closer Kenley Jansen, Julian McWilliams of The Boston Globe reports. The high-leverage crew will be bolstered by the eventual returns of Chris Martin (elbow) and Justin Slaten (elbow).

Sims has posted a 3.57 ERA and 40:20 K:BB over 35.1 innings in 2024 as a member of the Reds bullpen. The pending free agent boasts a career 27.5 percent strikeout rate but also an 11.9 percent walk rate. He'll slot in as a setup man for Boston in front of closer Kenley Jansen.

Reds' Lucas Sims: Gets another save opportunity
Sims allowed one hit and one walk over one-third of an inning in Saturday's 4-3 win over the Cubs.
With Alexis Diaz presumably unavailable after throwing 42 pitches across back-to-back days, Sims was brought in for a save opportunity. He was unable to close out the win and was replaced by Justin Wilson, who nailed down his first save. Sims has a 4.43 ERA and 1.48 WHIP over 26 outings (20.1 innings) in 2024.

Reds' Lucas Sims: Nails down first save
Sims struck out two batters in a perfect inning and earned a save over the Cardinals on Monday.
Sims had no trouble working through the heart of St. Louis' order to finish off the 3-1 win Monday. It was his first save of the year to go along with his seven holds and 19:10 K:BB through 17.1 innings. Alexis Diaz earned saves Saturday and Sunday, leading to his day off Monday. Sims is not expected to see many save chances in the near future.

Reds' Lucas Sims: Picks up relief win
Sims (1-0) threw a scoreless inning and picked up the win in Sunday's victory over Washington.
Sims fired a perfect top of the ninth inning and benefitted from the team's three runs in the bottom half of the frame to pull out a comeback win. He's coming off a career-high 67 appearances (61 innings) in 2023, when he operated as one of the primary setup relievers for closer Alexis Diaz.

Reds' Lucas Sims: Working on splitter
Like teammate Hunter Greene, as well as a good portion of other pitchers in baseball, Sims is working on a splitter this spring, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Sims wants to have a better third pitch to use against lefties, as he hasn't been happy with his results when using a changeup. The Reds should have a deeper bullpen this season, which might limit the chances for Sims to record saves or holds; however, that might also allow him to be stronger on a per-outing basis.

Reds' Lucas Sims: Settles with Cincinnati
The Reds and Sims avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $2.85 million contract Thursday, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
It was the reliever's third and final year of arbitration eligibility. Sims managed to stay healthy and pitch well for Cincinnati this past season, collecting a 3.10 ERA and three saves to go along with a 72:39 K:BB over 61 innings. He'll likely be relied upon for high-leverage outings again in 2024.

Reds' Lucas Sims: Secures third save
Sims struck out two in a perfect inning to earn the save in Saturday's 8-7 extra-innings win over the Diamondbacks.
Sims took care of business in the 11th inning after Alexis Diaz and the Reds' shaky defense combined to blow a save chance in the 10th. This was Sims' third save of the season to go with 21 holds and four blown saves in 53 appearances. He's posted three consecutive scoreless appearances, and he's now at a 3.70 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 63:32 K:BB through 48.2 innings this season. The right-hander remains a solid setup man, but it would take a brutal slump from Diaz for Sims to be considered for closing duties.

Reds' Lucas Sims: Takes loss
Sims (3-2) was tagged with Sunday's loss to the Brewers. He allowed two runs on one hit and one walk over two-thirds of an inning.
The Reds held a 3-2 lead entering the eighth inning and were hoping to prevent a sweep at the hand of their division rivals. Sims, who closed out the seventh inning, allowed a walk and a single to lead off the eighth before Owen Miller's sacrifice fly tied the game. Another run was charged to Sims after he left the game. Sims, who has been near-impeccable as the Reds' primary setup reliever, entered the game with a 1.93 ERA over the previous 18.2 innings and was the bullpen with 13 holds.

Reds' Lucas Sims: Picks up relief win
Sims (3-1) picked up the win over Milwaukee on Saturday. He allowed one walk and struck out two over 1.1 scoreless innings.
It was a wild affair in Milwaukee, as the Reds came back twice to earn the victory. Sims is a trusted late-inning arm out of the bullpen for manager David Bell. Since June 1, the right-hander has a 2.04 ERA with 23 strikeouts and five walks over 17.2 innings. Most of the damage during that stretch came in one disastrous game when he ceded three home runs in one inning to Atlanta.

Reds' Lucas Sims: Earns first save
Sims picked up the save in Tuesday's 8-4 victory over the Nationals, striking out two in a scoreless inning.
After Daniel Duarte allowed the first two Nationals to reach in the ninth inning, Sims came in to shut the door, striking out a pair to leave the tying run in the on-deck circle. It's the first save in three chances this year for Sims -- Alexis Diaz was unavailable after pitching in the Reds' previous two contests. While he won't be overtaking Diaz for the closing job, the 29-year-old Sims appears to be the next man up in Cincinnati's pen. He's pitched to a 3.31 ERA with a 1.07 WHIP and 42:18 K:BB across 32.2 innings this season.

Reds' Lucas Sims: Earns win in relief
Sims (1-0) blew the save but picked up the win Wednesday against Texas. He struck out two over a scoreless inning.
Sims came on in relief in the ninth inning after Ian Gibault departed with runners on first and second and no outs. He'd allow a sacrifice fly to Brad Miller, tieing the game 3-3, before recording a pair of strikeouts to avoid further damage. Sims has made four appearances this season without allowing a run, striking out four in 3.2 innings. Sims is arguably the Reds' best option in the bullpen behind Alexis Diaz, though he doesn't have a clear path towards fantasy relevance.

Reds' Lucas Sims: Activated from 15-day IL
Sims (back) was activated Tuesday from the 15-day injured list, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Sims will join the Reds' bullpen Tuesday against the Rays -- a day earlier than expected -- after logging three solid minor-league rehab appearances at Triple-A Louisville. He's battled a lot of injuries in recent seasons, but the 28-year-old right-hander could quickly rise into a prominent setup role if his health cooperates.
