  • Twins' Gio Urshela: Inks deal with Minnesota

The Twins signed Urshela to a minor-league contract Monday that includes an invitation to spring training, Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com reports.

Urshela spent the 2025 season with the Athletics, slashing .238/.287/.326 with zero home runs, 20 RBI, 10 runs scored and a 13:40 BB:K across 197 plate appearances before being designated for assignment in mid-August. Urshela was eventually released days later but never found a home to close out the 2025 campaign. With Minnesota, 34-year-old Urshela will compete for a corner infielder depth job behind Josh Bell, Royce Lewis, Brooks Lee and Kody Clemens.

  • Gio Urshela: Cut loose by Athletics

The Athletics released Urshela on Sunday.

Urshela will be able to pursue his options on the open market after he cleared waivers upon being designated for assignment Friday. The 33-year-old is regarded as a solid defender at the corner-infield spots, but he provided scarce production with the bat prior to losing his spot on the Athletics' 40-man roster, slashing just .238/.287/.326 over 197 plate appearances.

  • Athletics' Gio Urshela: Designated for assignment

The Athletics designated Urshela for assignment Friday.

After slashing .238/.287/.326 with 20 RBI and 10 runs scored through 197 plate appearances on the year, Urshela will lose his place on the Athletics' 26-man and 40-man rosters. He'll be replaced on the big club by Brett Harris, who was recalled from Triple-A on Friday. The A's also claimed Jared Shuster off waivers from the White Sox to round out the 40-man.

  • Athletics' Gio Urshela: Taking seat Thursday

Urshela is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game against the Nationals.

Urshela had started four of the previous five games, but he'll begin Thursday's matinee on the bench. Max Schuemann will handle third base and bat ninth for the Athletics.

  • Athletics' Gio Urshela: Playing time trending up

Urshela will start at third base and bat eighth in Wednesday's game against the Nationals.

Urshela will stick in the lineup for the fourth time in five games while Luis Urias (back) is day-to-day and Max Muncy (hand) remains on the shelf. Assuming Urias is able to avoid a stint on the injured list and rejoins the lineup in the near future, Urshela will likely fade into more of a part-time role.

  • Athletics' Gio Urshela: Two hits off bench in return

Urshela went 2-for-2 with a double, one RBI and one run scored in Tuesday's 13-3 loss to the Astros.

Urshela missed just under four weeks due to a left hamstring strain. He didn't start Tuesday, but he was the only Athletic to log multiple hits in the contest. It's unclear if he'll be able to regain a regular role in the Athletics' infield -- his best bet for playing time is likely to challenge Max Muncy at third base, though Muncy is hitting a respectable .261 (12-for-46) in June compared to his .211 average on the year. Urshela is at a .240/.290/.360 slash line with no home runs, 14 RBI, four runs scored, 10 doubles, one triple and no stolen bases across 109 plate appearances this season. Even if he gains a starting role in the short term, Miguel Andujar (oblique) could displace Urshela once healthy.

  • Athletics' Gio Urshela: Activated from injured list

The Athletics reinstated Urshela (hamstring) from the 10-day injured list Tuesday.

Urshela got seven hits across 14 at-bats with a home run and two doubles in four games during his rehab assignment with Triple-A Las Vegas. The 33-year-old is set to return after missing time since May 22 due to the hamstring injury he suffered. In a corresponding move, Seth Brown was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday due to an elbow injury.

  • Athletics' Gio Urshela: Starting rehab stint soon

Urshela (hamstring) is expected to be sent out on a minor-league rehab assignment later in the week, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Urshela, who was placed on the 10-day injured list May 23 due to a left hamstring strain, is set to begin a rehab stint with Triple-A Las Vegas. It's been just over two weeks since his last game action, so he should only need a handful of at-bats in the minors before the team feels comfortable activating him.

  • Athletics' Gio Urshela: Placed on 10-day IL

The Athletics placed Urshela (hamstring) on the 10-day injured list Friday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Urshela strained his left hamstring Thursday. With Urshela sidelined, Miguel Andujar, Luis Urias and Logan Davidson are candidates to make starts at third base for the Athletics. Urshela has underwhelmed with a .224/.276/.337 slash line this season.

  • Athletics' Gio Urshela: Destined for IL

Urshela strained his left hamstring Thursday and will be placed on the injured list, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Urshela suffered the injury Thursday against the Angels, and the team wasted little time in making a determination about his status. The severity of the injury remains unclear, though Urshela's absence isn't likely to affect the A's lineup much on a daily basis as he already lost his regular role at third base.

  • Athletics' Gio Urshela: Exits with trainer

Urshela was removed from Thursday's game against the Angels due to a left hamstring injury, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

The severity of Urshela's injury remains unknown, but the A's should provide more details relatively soon. The 33-year-old lost his grip on the starting third base job earlier this month and is slashing just .224/.276/.337 across 107 plate appearances in 2025.

  • Athletics' Gio Urshela: Losing out to Andujar at 3B

Urshela is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mariners.

Urshela will hit the bench for the third game in a row and appears to have ceded primary duties at third base to Miguel Andujar, who was displaced in the corner outfield as part of the domino effect of first baseman Nick Kurtz's promotion to the big leagues. Though Urshela brings better defense to the table, Andujar has been one of the team's top hitters this season with a .786 OPS -- more than 150 points ahead of Urshela's mark (.621). Playing time will likely become even more difficult to come by for Urshela once Zack Gelof (wrist) comes off the injured list, as Gelof's return will result in Luis Urias moving off second base and vying for reps at the hot corner.

  • Athletics' Gio Urshela: Not in Monday's lineup

Urshela is not in the Athletics' starting lineup against the Mariners on Monday.

Urshela will take a seat for Monday's series opener while Luis Urias and Miguel Andujar start at second and third base, respectively. Urshela has gone 11-for-34 (.324) with four RBI over his last 10 games.

  • Athletics' Gio Urshela: Out of lineup Thursday

Urshela is not in the lineup for Thursday's contest in Texas.

Urshela will get a routine day off after starting in each of the first three games of the four-game series. Miguel Andujar will fill in at third base and bat fifth Thursday.

  • Athletics' Gio Urshela: Getting day off

Urshela is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the White Sox.

Urshela will take a seat for the day game after he started at third base in each of the Athletics' previous three contests. Max Schuemann will fill in at the hot corner for Urshela, who is batting .196 with no home runs or stolen bases across 50 plate appearances on the season.

  • Athletics' Gio Urshela: Riding pine Saturday

Urshela isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Mets.

Urshela will take a seat Saturday after going 1-for-3 with a walk in Friday's series opener. Luis Urias will fill the opening at third base and bat seventh while Urshela rests.

  • Athletics' Gio Urshela: Drives in three against Friars

Urshela went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a run scored and three RBI in Tuesday's 10-4 win over the Padres.

The veteran third baseman doubled his hit total on the season with the performance. Urshela has had a shaky start to the campaign, batting .182 (6-for-33) in 10 games with zero homers, two runs and four RBI, but his starting spot at the hot corner doesn't seem to be in any jeopardy.

  • Athletics' Gio Urshela: Exiting starting nine Wednesday

Urshela is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Padres.

Urshela will get a breather for the day game after a night game, allowing Luis Urias to pick up a start at third base. Though he's been serving as the Athletics' primary option at the hot corner, Urshela's grasp on an everyday role could be slipping while he's struggled to a .182/.206/.273 slash line through his first 35 plate appearances of the season.

  • Athletics' Gio Urshela: Resting Saturday

Urshela is out of the lineup for Saturday's game versus Colorado.

Urshela is just 3-for-23 through seven games this season, and the A's will now give him a day to rest while Max Schuemann picks up a start at the hot corner and bats ninth.
