Charlie Tilson: Released by Pittsburgh
The Pirates released Tilson on June 9.
Tilson was one of several non-roster players cut loose by Pittsburgh in anticipation of the 2020 minor-league season being canceled. The 27-year-old outfielder previously appeared in 54 big-league games with the White Sox in 2019, hitting .229 with a home run and four stolen bases across 157 plate appearances.

Pirates' Charlie Tilson: Likely looking at trip to minors
Tilson, who is a long shot to make the team out of camp, hit .167 in 18 Grapefruit League at-bats.
The non-roster invitee saw limited action for the White Sox in 2019, playing all three outfield spots while slashing .229/.293/.285 with one homer and four stolen bases in 157 plate appearances. The 27-year-old stole 46 bases for Texas' Double-A team in 2015, but those numbers haven't translated to the major leagues. Tilson is likely to start 2020 with Triple-A Indianapolis while waiting for injuries to strike the Pittsburgh outfield.

Pirates' Charlie Tilson: Latches on with Pirates
Tilson has agreed to a minor-league deal with the Pirates that includes an invitation to spring training, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports.
Once an interesting prospect in the Cardinals' system, Tilson is now with his third organization. He hit .246/.310/.290 with one home run and six steals in 280 plate appearances across three seasons in the majors with the White Sox. His sprint speed was in the 94th percentile last year, so he could provide some steals if he were to win a job in spring training. The 27-year-old will be competing with the likes of Jason Martin for playing time.

Charlie Tilson: Elects free agency
Tilson elected to become a free agent rather than accept an outright assignment to the minors, James Fegan of The Athletic reports.
Tilson hit .229/.293/.285 in 54 games at the big-league level this season. He'll probably end up with a minor-league contract this offseason.

White Sox's Charlie Tilson: Dumped from 40-man roster
Tilson was outrighted to Triple-A Charlotte on Thursday.
This doesn't come as much of a surprise after the White Sox didn't add him to the roster in September. Tilson posted just a .578 OPS with the big club before being demoted in July and went on to post a below-league-average batting line with Charlotte. He'll face an uphill battle to get back onto the 40-man.

White Sox's Charlie Tilson: Sent to Triple-A
Tilson was optioned to Triple-A Charlotte on Thursday, James Fegan of The Athletic reports.
Tilson lost a fair amount of playing time when Jon Jay returned from the 60-day injured list in late June. He could be back in the big leagues at some point this season, but his .229/.293/.285 slash line through 54 games certainly doesn't suggest that he'll be a fantasy weapon if and when he returns.

White Sox's Charlie Tilson: Back to reserve role
Tilson is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Athletics, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Tilson closed out the first half with three consecutive starts, but he's settled back into a bench role for every game of the White Sox's first series coming out of the All-Star break. Ryan Cordell still appears to hold the edge over Tilson for the primary center-field gig.

White Sox's Charlie Tilson: Third straight start
Tilson will start in center field and bat eighth Sunday against the Cubs.
Tilson will be picking up his third straight start Sunday, but the 26-year-old hasn't necessarily unseated Ryan Cordell as the primary option in center field. Given that Tilson is slashing just .174/.269/.217 dating back to the beginning of June, he'll likely need to deliver several quality performances before gaining traction in Chicago's everyday outfield.

White Sox's Charlie Tilson: Back in action
Tilson (illness) is back in the lineup Friday, starting in center field and batting eighth against the Twins.
Tilson was bit by the flu bug earlier in the week but seems to have turned the page. If you slice his season in half, you see opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of offensive performance. In his first 22 games, Tilson slashed .303/.361/.368, but over his last 22, he's batting .156/.224/.222. If he doesn't pick it up soon, he will likely lose out on more starts to Ryan Cordell in center, with Leury Garcia needed at shortstop in place of Tim Anderson (ankle).

White Sox's Charlie Tilson: Exits Wednesday with flu
Tilson left Wednesday's game against the Red Sox with flu-like symptoms.

White Sox's Charlie Tilson: Could lose time to Jon Jay
Tilson is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Red Sox.
Tilson's absence from the lineup comes as little surprise with the White Sox facing a left-handed pitcher (Eduardo Rodriguez), but the 26-year-old could now be in danger of losing out on starts versus right-handed pitching, too. The White Sox brought back another lefty-hitting outfielder in Jon Jay (hip) back from the 60-day injured list Monday and could hand him a full-time role right away.

White Sox's Charlie Tilson: Stuck on bench
Tilson will remain on the bench Saturday against the Yankees.
Tilson sat against three straight lefties and will do so again with right-handed opener Chad Green on the mound for the Yankees, as the White Sox don't want Tilson to face presumed primary pitcher and left-hander Nestor Cortes. Ryan Cordell will start in right field and could remain there for three more games, as the White Sox aren't expected to face a righty until next Friday.

Tilson went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI in Friday's win over the Indians.
Tilson plated two runs on a ground-rule double in the bottom of the third inning, giving the White Sox a 2-1 lead. He certainly isn't known for his power stroke, but he's managed to hit for average to this point, batting .287 with 11 RBI over 25 games in 2019.
