Rockies' Wynton Bernard: Loses spot on 40-man roster
Bernard was outrighted to Triple-A Albuquerque on Wednesday.
Bernard was sent to the minors in late August and will now be cast off the team's 40-man roster. It wouldn't be surprising to see him serve as a non-roster invitee during spring training.

Rockies' Wynton Bernard: Sent back to minors
The Rockies optioned Bernard to Triple-A Albuquerque on Tuesday.
Bernard had started in eight of the Rockies' last 10 games and batted .286 while adding three stolen bases following his Aug. 12 call-up. However, he failed to draw a walk in 42 plate appearances, and only one of his 12 hits went for extra bases, so the Rockies opted to send the 31-year-old rookie back to the minors. Michael Toglia received a promotion from Albuquerque in a corresponding move.

Rockies' Wynton Bernard: Heads to bench
Bernard is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Mets.
Bernard will head to the bench after going 7-for-21 with a double, a stolen base, five runs and two RBI while starting each of the past five games in center field. Garrett Hampson will get a look in center Thursday, but Bernard may keep seeing most of the opportunities at the position if he continues to fare well at the plate.

Rockies' Wynton Bernard: Garners fourth straight start
Bernard will start in center field and bat ninth in Wednesday's game against the Rangers, Patrick Lyons of TheDNVR.com reports.
Elehuris Montero will exit the lineup to clear room for Bernard, who is making his fourth consecutive start and his third in a row against a right-handed pitcher. Due to the Rockies' logjam in the outfield, Bernard doesn't appear to have a direct path to a full-time gig at the moment, but manager Bud Black could continue to dish out rest days to regular players periodically to open up a quasi-everyday role for the speedy outfielder if he keeps making an impact on the bases and on defense. Through his first seven big-league games, the 31-year-old rookie is getting on base at a weak .259 clip, but he's 3-for-3 on stolen-base attempts and has scored six runs.

Rockies' Wynton Bernard: Swipes bag, scores twice in loss
Bernard went 2-for-4 with a stolen base and two runs scored in Tuesday's 5-4 loss to the Cardinals.
Bernard was one of two Rockies to produce multiple hits in the contest. The outfielder also picked up his second steal in three games. He's gone 3-for-11 to begin his major-league career, adding one RBI and three strikeouts. Bernard's started three of four games since he was brought up from Triple-A Albuquerque, and it looks like he could see a short-side platoon role in center field during his time in the majors.

The 31-year-old, singled, stole second and scored on a Jose Iglesias sacrifice fly in the seventh inning. Bernard spent 10 years in the minors before making his debut, but it's expected he'll fill a reserve role in the outfield while he's up with the Rockies as a replacement for Yonathan Daza (shoulder).

Cubs' Wynton Bernard: Signs with Cubs
Bernard signed a minor-league contract with the Cubs, Emily Waldon of The Athletic Detroit reports.
Bernard spent all of 2017 with Triple-A Sacramento, the Giants' affiliate, and he will likely be starting the 2018 season again at Triple-A -- this time with the Iowa Cubs. The 27-year-old slashed just .245/.303/.347 in 82 games last season. He is considered a speedy outfielder who also possesses above-average tools in the field. His focus for the 2018 season will most certainly be to improve his numbers at the plate, which, if successful, could lead to him seeing some time in the majors.

Tigers' Wynton Bernard: DFA'd by Tigers on Saturday
Bernard was designated for assignment by the Tigers on Saturday, Katie Strang of ESPN reports.
The move is essentially a formality, serving to remove Bernard from the 40-man roster to clear a spot for Casey McGehee, whose contract was purchased by the Tigers on Saturday. Bernard has spent the duration of the season at Triple-A Toledo, and that's unlikely to change unless another club claims him off waivers in the next few days.
