White Sox's Nick Williams: Outrighted to alternate camp
Williams has cleared waivers and was outrighted to the White Sox's alternate training site Saturday, LaMond Pope of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Wiliams was designated for assignment by Chicago on Thursday, and he'll now head to the team's alternate facility in Schaumburg. The 27-year-old appeared in four games early in the season and went hitless with a walk, two runs and four strikeouts in 10 at-bats. Williams could report to Triple-A Charlotte once the minor-league season gets underway.

White Sox's Nick Williams: Designated for assignment
Williams was designated for assignment by the White Sox on Thursday.
Williams had started three of the last five games ahead of highly touted prospect Andrew Vaughn in left field. That evidently didn't mean the White Sox thought too highly of him, however, as he's no longer deemed worthy of a 40-man roster spot. Williams has hit .138/.200/.224 in limited action over the last three years, so he seemingly has a good chance of passing through waivers unclaimed.

White Sox's Nick Williams: Called up, starting Thursday
Williams' contract was selected by the White Sox on Thursday. He's starting in left field for Thursday's game against Kansas City.
The White Sox placed Billy Hamilton (hamstring) on the injured list Thursday, and Williams will take his place on the major-league roster. While Andrew Vaughn should see most of the playing time in left field in Hamilton's absence, Williams is getting the first crack at it, perhaps because righty Brad Keller is starting for the Royals.

White Sox's Nick Williams: Fails to win job
Williams was reassigned to minor-league camp Tuesday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Williams and Billy Hamilton were competing for a bench outfield spot, with the White Sox needing an extra option in the wake of Eloy Jimenez's long-term pectoral injury and Adam Engel's short-term hamstring concern. For his part, Williams made a fairly strong case this spring, hitting .300/.364/.475, but it's Hamilton who will win the job. Williams isn't on the team's 40-man roster, so he's not necessarily the next man up in the event of another injury.

White Sox's Nick Williams: Battling Hamilton for spot
Williams and Billy Hamilton are fighting for the White Sox's final roster spot, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.
Both outfielders started Saturday's Cactus League game -- Williams in left field and Hamilton in right -- and each had a hit in four at-bats. Whoever wins the battle will likely have a short window of opportunity. Adam Engel (hamstring) is due back within the first two weeks of the regular season.

White Sox's Nick Williams: Starts in LF
Williams started in left field and went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored in Thursday's spring game against the Reds.
Williams drew the first start in left field after the White Sox announced Eloy Jimenez would miss a minimum of five months with a rupture of his left pectoral tendon. The White Sox are considering several internal options, including the non-roster invitee Williams. Prospect Andrew Vaughn is expected to start in left Friday, Adam Engel (hamstring) could fill in when he returns and veterans Leury Garcia and Billy Hamilton are also options.

White Sox's Nick Williams: Joins White Sox
Williams signed a minor-league contract with the White Sox on Friday, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.
The 27-year-old split time between the Phillies' and Reds' alternate training sites last season, but he didn't see major-league action. Williams appeared in 67 games for Philly in 2019 and had a .151/.196/.245 slash line with 43 strikeouts in 112 plate appearances.

Reds' Nick Williams: Clears waivers
Williams cleared waivers Friday and was outrighted to the Reds' alternate site.
Williams produced an above-average batting line in both of his first two seasons in the league but has fallen far since then. After posting a wRC+ of 12 in 67 games last season, he failed to make a big-league appearance for both the Phillies and Reds this year, and now he wasn't even claimed by another team for free. His chances of making an impact at the highest level next season appear slim.

Reds' Nick Williams: Designated for assigment
The Reds designated Williams for assignment Tuesday, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
Exactly a month after being claimed off waivers after the Phillies designated him for assignment, Williams will once again hit waivers. He did not reach the big leagues this year for either team.

Reds' Nick Williams: Claimed by Reds
Williams was claimed off waivers by the Reds on Saturday, Jim Salisbury of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports.
Williams was designated for assignment by the Phillies on Tuesday after failing to live up to his potential over the past three seasons. The 26-year-old hasn't appeared in the majors in 2020, but he'll claim a spot on the Reds' 40-man roster going forward at the team's alternate training site. While spending parts of the last three seasons in the majors, Williams slashed .254/.313/.420 with 31 home runs and 110 RBI over 903 plate appearances.

Phillies' Nick Williams: Designated for assignment
Williams was designated for assignment for the Phillies on Tuesday.
Once considered a rather interesting prospect, good enough to co-headline a trade for Cole Hamels back in 2015, Williams failed to make good on his potential through parts of three big-league seasons, hitting a modest .254/.313/.420 over 903 plate appearances, good for just a 94 wRC+. That's hardly a terrible mark, and he's still just 26 years old, so there's a chance another team takes a flier on him on the waiver wire. He hasn't been a part of the Phillies' active roster this season.

Phillies' Nick Williams: Optioned to Triple-A
Williams was optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Thursday, Matt Breen of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Williams entered camp battling for a bench spot but failed to take advantage of the opportunity, slashing .087/.241/.130 in 10 Grapefruit League games before play was suspended. This comes after the outfielder struggled to a .151/.196/.245 slash line in 112 big-league plate appearances in 2019.

Phillies' Nick Williams: Not impressing in camp
Williams hit a poor .087/.241/.130 in 10 Grapefruit League games before play was suspended.
Williams came to camp battling for a bench spot but didn't do much to help his case following a season in which he hit a miserable .151/.196/.245 in 112 big-league plate appearances. Roman Quinn, Mikie Mahtook and Kyle Garlick are among those competing with Williams for either one or two bench outfield spots, depending on how Andrew McCutchen's recovery from knee surgery lines up with the eventual resumption of play.

Phillies' Nick Williams: Receives callup
The Phillies recalled Williams from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Tuesday.
The offseason pickup of Bryce Harper plus the midseason additions of Corey Dickerson and Jay Bruce have pushed Williams down the corner outfield depth chart in 2019, and the 25-year-old's outlook isn't expected to change much in September. Williams has predictably dominated at the Triple-A level this season with a .955 OPS in 210 plate appearances, but he struggled mightily across various stints in the big leagues, contributing a .158/.206/.257 slash line over 60 games with Philadelphia.

Phillies' Nick Williams: Sent to minors
Williams was optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Thursday, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Williams was sent back to the minors following Thursday's win over the Giants in order to free up a roster spot for Friday's starter, Jason Vargas. The outfielder is hitting just .158 in 101 at-bats on the season after going 0-for-1 on Thursday.

Phillies' Nick Williams: Slugs second homer
Williams went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 4-0 win over the Tigers.
It's only his second big-league homer of the year, with the last coming in late April. Williams has gone 2-for-16 with seven strikeouts since being recalled from Triple-A last week, so he'll likely be headed right back to the minors as soon as another Phillies hitter gets healthy.

Phillies' Nick Williams: Rejoins big club
Williams was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Wednesday, Meghan Montemurro of The Athletic reports.
With Jay Bruce (oblique) headed to the injured list, Williams will rejoin the Phillies following a 24-game stint in the minors during which he slashed .340/.402/.639 with six home runs and 14 RBI. The outfielder owns an unsightly .173/.221/.259 slash line through 50 games (86 plate appearances) with the big club this season.

Phillies' Nick Williams: Sent back to minors
Williams was optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Monday.
Williams has failed to get going in sporadic at-bats this season, hitting a miserable .173/.221/.259 with a 34.9 percent strikeout rate in 86 plate appearances. His absence makes way for Roman Quinn, who returned from a groin injury in a corresponding move.

Phillies' Nick Williams: Returns to majors
Williams was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Saturday, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
The 25-year-old has shuffled between Lehigh Valley and Philadelphia this season, but the injury to Adam Haseley (hip) resulted in Williams being called back up to serve as outfield depth. He's struggled in his time in the majors this year, carrying a slash line of .159/.205/.232 with 24 strikeouts in 69 at-bats. Expect Scott Kingery to receive the bulk of the work in center field with Williams mostly appearing off the bench.
