  • Mariners' Colin Moran: Denied Opening Day roster spot

The Mariners reassigned Moran to minor-league camp Sunday. Unless the 30-year-old corner infielder and the Mariners agree to mutually part ways so he can pursue opportunities in another organization, Moran is expected to report to Triple-A Tacoma to begin the 2023 campaign. Moran spent the 2022 season in Cincinnati, slashing .211/.305/.376 in 128 plate appearances at the big-league level.

  • Reds' Colin Moran: Out against righty

Moran is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Cardinals. The lefty-hitting Moran could end up filling the large side of a platoon at first base while Joey Votto (shoulder), Mike Moustakas (calf) and Matt Reynolds (hip) are on the shelf, but Moran will find himself out of the lineup versus a right-hander (Dakota Hudson) in the second game of the series. Donovan Solano will replace Moran at first base.

  • Reds' Colin Moran: On bench versus lefty

Moran is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Nationals. After being called up from Triple-A Louisville on Saturday, Moran started at first base and went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in the Reds' 6-2 win. The lefty-hitting Moran will be on the bench Sunday against Nationals southpaw Patrick Corbin, but Moran could see the bulk of the opportunities versus right-handed pitching while Mike Moustakas (calf) and Matt Reynolds (hip) are on the injured list.

  • Reds' Colin Moran: Contract selected by Reds

Moran's contract was selected from Triple-A Louisville on Saturday. Moran has spent the last two and a half months in the minors but will rejoin the Reds after Mike Moustakas (calf) was placed on the 10-day injured list. Moran hit .210 with four home runs, 22 RBI and eight runs over 37 major-league games earlier in the year, and he should have a chance to carve out playing time, primarily versus right-handed pitchers, in Moustakas' absence.

  • Reds' Colin Moran: Optioned to Triple-A

Moran (head) was optioned to Triple-A Louisville on Monday, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Moran hasn't played since colliding with the Cardinals' Dylan Carlson on Saturday, but he was cleared of a concussion. The fact that he was optioned rather than placed on the injured list seemingly indicates he's healthy. His role was set to be reduced even if he remained on the roster, as Mike Moustakas returned from the COVID-19 injured list Monday.

  • Reds' Colin Moran: Avoids concussion

Moran isn't dealing with a concussion after exiting Saturday's game against St. Louis with a head injury, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Moran left the game after colliding with Dylan Carlson. He didn't start Sunday's series finale, but he isn't an everyday starter, so it's unclear to what extent his absence is injury-related.

Moran was called up from Triple-A Louisville on Thursday, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. • Reds' Colin Moran: Optioned to Triple-A

Moran was optioned to Triple-A Louisville on Friday. The 29-year-old had a hot stretch in early May in which he homered four times over four games, but he lost out on consistent playing time after Joey Votto was reinstated from the COVID-19 injured list last week. Moran should see more consistent at-bats in the minors and should be one of the top candidates for a call-up if one of the Reds' corner infielders gets hurt.

  • Reds' Colin Moran: On bench Wednesday

Moran is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs. Even with right-hander Kyle Hendricks taking the hill for the Cubs, the lefty-hitting Moran will find himself on the bench for the penultimate game of the series. Moran should still play against right-handed pitching more often than not until Jonathan India (hamstring) returns from the injured list.

  • Reds' Colin Moran: Filling in for Votto

Moran will start at first base and bat fifth in Wednesday's game against the Brewers. He'll pick up his second start in a row at first base following Joey Votto's placement on the COVID-19 injured list earlier this week. So long as Votto is out, the lefty-hitting Moran should be a mainstay in the lineup versus right-handed pitching, but the Reds could choose to go with another at first base when lefties are on the mound for the opposition.

  • Reds' Colin Moran: On bench versus lefty

Moran is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rockies. Moran finds himself on the bench for the third consecutive game, this time against Colorado lefty Kyle Freeland. Brandon Drury will start at the hot corner Sunday for the Reds.
