Rosario signed a one-year, $2.5 million contract with the Yankees on Saturday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.
Rosario appeared in just 16 regular-season games after being traded from the Nationals to the Yankees, going 10-for-33 with a homer and five RBI. The 30-year-old will now return to the Bronx and provide the Pinstripes with a bench piece who is capable of playing nearly every defensive position. Rosario slashed .302/.328/.491 against southpaws in 2025.
Rosario went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Sunday's 6-4 loss to the Red Sox.
Rosario got the Yankees on the board by taking Garrett Crochet deep in the fourth inning. Playing time has been sparse for Rosario since he returned from a collarbone SC joint sprain Aug. 19, as he has played in just eight games over the last nearly four weeks. New York cleared a space on the 26-man active roster by optioning J.C. Escarra to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Monday, and the expectation is that Rosario's activation will be the corresponding transaction. If that happens, Rosario will have spent the minimum amount of time on the IL due to a left collarbone SC joint sprain. Rosario isn't an everyday player with the Yankees, but he gives the team valuable versatility with his ability to play multiple positions in both the infield and outfield.

The Yankees placed Rosario on the 10-day injured list Sunday due to a left collarbone SC joint sprain.
The veteran infielder was one of a trio of bench players the Yankees acquired at the trade deadline, but Jose Caballero is, at least temporarily, the last man standing from that group while Rosario joins Austin Slater (hamstring) on the IL. Rosario's injury isn't considered significant, and he could be ready to return when first eligible Aug. 19, per Chris Kirschner of The Athletic. He's appeared in four games for New York while going 3-for-7 with a double and an RBI.
The Yankees acquired Rosario in a trade with Washington on Saturday in exchange for Clayton Beeter and Browm Martinez, Jack Curry of YES Network reports.
Rosario adds considerable versatility to the Yankees' roster, as he has played third base, second base, shortstop and right field this season. Over 47 games with the Nationals prior to the trade, he slashed .270/.310/.426 with five homers, 18 RBI and one stolen base. Rosario has seen more at-bats against lefties than righties this season and has hit southpaws well throughout his career, so he could be an option to at least occasionally spell the newly acquired Ryan McMahon -- who figures to get most of the starts at the hot corner but has struggled to a .599 OPS against left-handed pitchers this season.

With his fifth homer of the season, Rosario was able to post at least one hit for the sixth time in his last eight games. The veteran utility man got a chance to face right-hander Andre Pallante on Wednesday, but the former should continue to see the bulk of his playing time versus left-handed pitching. Rosario is batting .305 with three long balls, seven doubles and 10 RBI over 82 at-bats against southpaws while batting just .228 versus righties this year.

Rosario continues to play in a short-side platoon role in the Nationals' infield. His homer Friday was his second in June, but he's gone just 5-for-29 (.172) over 10 games this month. That won't help him push for more playing time in the long run, though he still gets looks against lefties to allow Luis Garcia or Brady House to get rest. Rosario is at a .271/.320/.432 slash line with four homers, 15 RBI, 16 runs scored, one stolen base and seven doubles over 126 plate appearances this season.
