Marlins' Nick Gordon: Optioned outright to Triple-A
Gordon was outrighted to Triple-A Jacksonville on Thursday.
Gordon cleared waivers after being designated for assignment by the Marlins on Monday, and he now appears to be set to report to Triple-A Jacksonville, though he can elect free agency instead since he has more than three years of MLB service time. The 28-year-old has produced a .227 average with eight home runs, 32 RBI, 29 runs scored and five stolen bases this season.

Marlins' Nick Gordon: Removed from 40-man roster
The Marlins designated Gordon for assignment Monday.
Gordon had recaptured a near-everyday role in the Miami outfield toward the end of July, but he failed to do much with the more consistent playing time. He had submitted a lowly .449 OPS since the All-Star break and had not fared much better on the season, producing a .227/.258/.369 slash line across 275 plate appearances. Since he has the ability to play multiple outfield and infield spots and is under contract at an affordable $900,000 salary, Gordon could draw some interest on the waiver wire from teams looking to bolster their bench, but he's unlikely to see regular at-bats no matter where lands.

Marlins' Nick Gordon: Hitting bench against southpaw
Gordon is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against Atlanta.
The lefty-hitting Gordon will take a seat against Atlanta southpaw Max Fried after starting in the outfield in each of the Marlins' last eight games while going 4-for-26 at the dish. Gordon is under club control through 2027, but the Marlins likely aren't overly invested in a 28-year-old who owns a .624 OPS this season and has largely served as a utility player during his time in the big leagues. As such, Gordon could be at risk of losing playing time against right-handed pitching down the stretch if the Marlins want to get more of an evaluation on younger outfield options on the 40-man roster such as Vidal Brujan, Cristian Pache, David Hensley and Victor Mesa.

Marlins' Nick Gordon: Goes to bench Thursday
Gordon is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Orioles.
Gordon had started in left field in both of the first two games of the series, going 1-for-5 with a walk, three RBI and two runs between those contests. Though his playing time looks to be trending back up a bit, Gordon still isn't locked into a full-time role and will need to produce over a longer stretch of games to solidify himself as an everyday player.

Marlins' Nick Gordon: Regaining playing time
Gordon will start in left field and bat eighth in Wednesday's game against the Orioles.
After going 1-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored in Tuesday's 6-3 win in the series opener, Gordon will be rewarded with a second consecutive start. Gordon had lost hold of his spot in the everyday lineup in late June, but he's started to regain playing time while he's begun to shown some signs of life at the plate lately. Over his last seven games, Gordon has six hits in 18 at-bats while scoring three times.
