Jarlin Garcia: Targeting return in 2024
Garcia (biceps) has been cleared to throw but won't be ready for spring training, Steve Adams of MLB Trade Rumors reports.
Garcia was sidelined for the entire 2023 season due to a left issue, but he's already drawing interest now that he's gotten the green light to begin throwing. Adams notes that while Garcia likely won't be ready for game action until May, there are already a few teams who have expressed interest in the southpaw.

The Pirates declined Garcia's (biceps) $3.25 million option for 2024 on Saturday, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Pirates' Jarlin Garcia: Dealing with biceps nerve issue
Garcia was diagnosed Thursday with an injury to the nerves in his left biceps and will be shut down from throwing for at least the next month, Justice delos Santos of MLB.com reports.
Garcia has undergone a range of different tests since leaving a Grapefruit League game back on March 4 due to tightness in his upper left arm. It sounds like the Pirates might have found the root of the issue, but there is no exact timetable for when he might be ready again to take the mound. Given the length of the initial shutdown, the 30-year-old shouldn't be expected back until at least late May.

Pirates' Jarlin Garcia: Extent of injury still unclear
Pirates director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk said Wednesday that tests on Garcia's left arm revealed no structural damage to his shoulder or elbow, but the team has yet to hone in on a formal diagnosis for his injury, Chris Halicke of DKPittsburghSports.com reports.
For now, Garcia's injury is being labeled as "left arm soreness," but more definitive word on the precise nature and extent of the issue should become available within the coming days when he undergoes additional testing. Tomczyk noted that Garcia is unable to grip a baseball at the moment, so the reliever likely won't be ready to throw for at least a couple of weeks and looks to be at risk of beginning the season on the injured list.

Pirates' Jarlin Garcia: Pulls out of World Baseball Classic
Garcia (arm) will no longer pitch for Team Dominican Republic in the World Baseball Classic, Alex Stumpf of DKPittsburghSports.com reports.

Pirates' Jarlin Garcia: Removed with arm issue
Garcia was removed from Saturday's spring game with left arm tightness, Justice delos Santos of MLB.com reports.
Garcia allowed four earned runs and recorded just one out in Saturday's outing, and the arm issue likely played a factor. The extent of his injury is uncertain, but he figures to go undergo tests in the near future.

Garcia signed a one-year deal with the Pirates on Tuesday, Alex Stumpf of DKPittsburghSports.com reports.
Garcia will make $2.5 million in 2023, with Pittsburgh holding a club option for $3.25 million for 2024, per Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic. The lefty was designated for assignment by the Giants in November, but that came after a solid season in which he posted a 3.74 ERA. He's unlikely to add significantly to his career total of two saves this season, but he should still be a serviceable member of the Pittsburgh bullpen.

Giants' Jarlin Garcia: Grabs first save
Garcia retired the only batter he faced to earn the save in Tuesday's 6-3 win over the Rockies.
Yunior Marte put two batters on base in the ninth inning, but Garcia was able to get Ryan McMahon out to end the game. While he's filled a versatile role this year, this was Garcia's first save of the season and just the second of his big-league career. He's added four holds, two blown saves, a 1-4 record, a 3.19 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 50:17 K:BB through 59.1 innings. Closer Camilo Doval had pitched in each of the last two games, so this was likely a one-off save opportunity for Garcia.

Garcia was charged with a blown save after allowing two runs on two hits while striking out one in one-third of an inning.
Garcia gave up a two-run home run to Randal Grichuk in the eighth inning, which tied the game at 6-6. It's been a rough stretch for Garcia lately -- he's allowed 11 runs (nine earned) across his last 13.2 innings spanning 15 appearances since the All-Star break. He's picked up just one hold in that span and appears limited to a low-leverage role with just three holds in 45 outings this year. He's added a 3.09 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, 41:13 K:BB and 1-3 record through 46.2 innings.

Giants' Jarlin Garcia: Takes walkoff loss
Garcia (1-3) allowed an unearned run on two hits and an intentional walk without retiring a batter Thursday, taking an extra-inning loss versus the Padres.
Garcia walked Austin Nola in the bottom of the 10th inning, then allowed back-to-back singles to Trent Grisham and Jorge Alfaro to end the game. Since the start of June, Garcia has given up 10 runs (seven earned) in 12.1 innings, recording two losses, a blown save and a hold in that span. The southpaw retains a respectable 2.15 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 21:10 K:BB through 29.1 innings, but his 4.02 FIP indicates he's been lucky to perform so well through the first half of the year.

Giants' Jarlin Garcia: Throws two perfect innings
Garcia struck out one across two perfect innings in Sunday's 4-3 loss to the Pirates.
Garcia has been used sparingly among his struggles in June, as he had allowed six runs (five earned) in his three previous appearances this month. He was much more efficient Sunday, throwing 12 of 17 pitches for strikes. The southpaw trimmed his ERA back down to 1.99 with a 0.88 WHIP and a 16:7 K:BB across 22.2 innings while adding a 1-2 record, two holds and a blown save. He sees mainly mid-leverage opportunities, though they have yet to lead to many holds or saves, as Camilo Doval and Jake McGee remain atop the Giants' bullpen hierarchy.

Giants' Jarlin Garcia: Allows first earned runs in loss
Garcia (1-2) allowed four runs on four hits in one-third of an inning, taking the loss Wednesday versus the Phillies.
Garcia took the ball for the sixth inning, but he gave up a pair of two-run homers to Nick Maron and Kyle Schwarber. Those were the first earned runs Garcia has allowed all season -- he didn't give up a run of any kind in 11.1 innings in May. It'll also count as a blown save for the 29-year-old southpaw, who now has a 2.08 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 12:7 K:BB across 17.1 innings this year. Given how well he's performed outside of Wednesday's hiccup, Garcia should see a chance to redeem himself in the near future.

Giants' Jarlin Garcia: Yet to yield run in May
Garcia pitched a scoreless inning Tuesday versus the Mets, allowing one hit with no walks and no strikeouts.
Garcia has yet to give up a run in May, posting a 10.2-inning scoreless streak. The only two runs on his ledger this season were unearned, and he's added a 0.73 WHIP, 11:6 K:BB, a hold and a 1-1 record in 16.1 innings. The southpaw has been a bright spot in a Giants bullpen that has endured some struggles lately, so he could push for more holds going forward.
