Tomshaw's contract was purchased by the White Sox on Thursday, Brandon Warne of Access Twins reports.
Tomshaw had been playing for the independent American Association's Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks, recording a 2.69 ERA and 1.05 WHIP in 11 starts and one relief appearance last season. This will be Tomshaw's second stint in the White Sox's organization, as he spent 2018 and 2019 in the upper minors with the team. The 32-year-old lefty has yet to make his MLB debut.

Tomshaw was released by the White Sox on Friday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Tomshaw was effective in the minors last season, recording a 2.90 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 118:20 K:BB over 111.2 innings with Double-A Birmingham and Triple-A Charlotte. However, the southpaw has yet to reach the majors and will be left searching for a new team ahead of the 2020 season.

Tomshaw signed a minor-league contract with the White Sox on Monday, Brandon Warne of ZoneCoverage.com reports.
Tomshaw spent the majority of 2018 with Double-A Birmingham, struggling to a 5.09 ERA and 1.45 WHIP across 21 starts (120.1 innings). He also made six starts with Triple-A Charlotte, finishing with an 8.58 ERA and 1.91 WHIP through 28.1 frames. The 30-year-old righty has yet to make his major-league debut and doesn't figure to do so in 2019.

The 28-year-old worked Triple-A for the second time in 2016, delivering an 8.47 K/9 and 1.06 BB/9 en route to a 2.12 ERA in 17 appearances. Hardly a prospect, Tomshaw will serve as organizational depth.
