The Marlins designated Emanuel for assignment Tuesday.
It's the fifth time Emanuel has been designated for assignment by the Marlins this season. He hasn't been effective when up in the majors and has a 6.62 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 12:7 K:BB over 17.2 innings. He'll likely head back to Triple-A Jacksonville if he passes through waivers unclaimed.

Marlins' Kent Emanuel: Returns to active roster
Rotowire
The Marlins selected Emanuel's contract from Triple-A Jacksonville on Sunday.
Miami designated Emanuel for assignment Wednesday, but he stuck around in the organization and will now return to the big-league club just a few days later as the Marlins contend with a plethora of injuries to their pitching staff. The 32-year-old southpaw has worked exclusively as a reliever throughout his big-league career, but he has experience as a starter in the minors and will provide some length out of the Miami bullpen.

Marlins' Kent Emanuel: Selected from Triple-A
Rotowire
The Marlins selected Emanuel's contract from Triple-A Jacksonville on Saturday.
Emanuel appeared in one game for the Marlins in early April, allowing four earned runs across three innings out of the bullpen. He's been much more successful since being sent down to the minors, and he'll now get another chance to stick around in Miami as a multi-inning reliever. Kyle Tyler was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.

Emanuel was DFA'd by the Marlins on Thursday after giving up four runs across three innings Wednesday. He will remain in the Marlins organization, but he no longer holds a spot on the 40-man roster. The 31-year-old lefty turned in a 6.19 ERA and 1.56 WHIP across 84.1 frames with the Pirates' Triple-A affiliate last season, and he will have to turn things around at Jacksonville in order to have a shot at pitching in the majors again this year.

Vladimir Gutierrez was designated for assignment in a corresponding move as the Marlins swap out long relievers from the 40-man roster and 26-man active roster. Emanuel last appeared in the majors in 2021, when he posted a 2.55 ERA over 10 relief appearances with the Astros.

Kent Emanuel: Released by Pittsburgh
Rotowire
Emanuel was released by the Pirates on Thursday.
Emanuel posted a 6.19 ERA over 20 appearances -- 13 starts -- with Triple-A Indianapolis. The 31-year-old did pitch well in the minors when healthy last season, but he's dealt with shoulder and elbow problems off and on for the last two years.

Phillies' Kent Emanuel: Outrighted to Triple-A
Rotowire
Emanuel (shoulder) was outrighted to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Wednesday.

Phillies' Kent Emanuel: Reinstated, sent down
Rotowire
Emanuel (elbow) was reinstated from the 60-day injured list and optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Friday.
Emanuel was sidelined for over a year due to an internal bracing procedure that he underwent last June, but he began a rehab assignment last month and posted a 2.96 ERA and 1.27 WHIP in 24.1 innings over six appearances. Although he's now back to full health, he'll remain in Lehigh Valley since the Phillies don't currently have room for him in their bullpen.

Phillies' Kent Emanuel: Rehab moves to Triple-A
Rotowire
Emanuel (elbow) will shift his rehab assignment from Double-A Reading to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Tuesday.
Lehigh Valley should mark the final stop of the rehab assignment for Emanuel, who has given up four earned runs on 12 hits and two walks while striking out eight in 8.2 innings between stops at Double-A and Single-A Clearwater. Emanuel is building back up from the internal bracing procedure he underwent last June, and it's unlikely the Phillies will have a spot in the bullpen available for him once his 30-day rehab window comes to a close and the team has to activate him from the 60-day injured list.

Phillies' Kent Emanuel: Claimed by Phillies
Rotowire
Emanuel (elbow) was claimed off waivers by the Phillies on Friday.
Emanuel made his big-league debut at age 28 last season, posting a 2.55 ERA despite a low 19.1 percent strikeout rate in 17.2 innings of relief. He suffered an elbow injury in late May and was shut down for season-ending surgery, though he at least avoided Tommy John in favor of an internal bracing procedure, which gives him a shot to be ready to pitch at some point during spring training. If healthy and effective, he'll serve as a fine left-handed relief option for the Phillies, but nothing in his track record suggests he's about to make a push to close games.

Astros' Kent Emanuel: Transferred to 60-day injured list
Rotowire
Emanuel (elbow) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Wednesday, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Emanuel's shift to the 60-day injured list is simply procedural since he's slated to miss the rest of the season after he underwent an internal bracing surgical procedure on his left elbow in early June. The surgery carries a nine-month recovery timetable, so the southpaw could be ready to return to game action during spring training. Kyle Tucker (illness) was reinstated from the COVID-19 injured list as part of a corresponding move.

Astros' Kent Emanuel: Set for season-ending surgery
Rotowire
Emanuel will undergo season-ending elbow surgery Thursday, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Emanuel has already undergone Tommy John surgery once in his career back in 2015. Elbow troubles (as well as a positive PED test) derailed his entire 2020 season, but he was able to make his big-league debut in late April and produced a 2.55 ERA and 0.91 WHIP in 17.2 innings of relief before his elbow flared up again. It's not yet clear whether the procedure he'll undergo this time around will be a second Tommy John or merely a cleanup, but either procedure is expected to wipe out the remainder of his season. If Tommy John surgery is required, he'd be on track to lose the majority of next year as well.

Astros' Kent Emanuel: Getting second opinion
Rotowire
Emanuel will receive a second opinion on his left elbow in the coming days, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Emanuel has been dealing with left elbow soreness since Tuesday, and his second opinion could help determine the severity of the injury. A better idea of his return timetable could come into focus once the results of his second examination are known.
