Zack Godley: Surfaces in indy ball
Godley signed a contract Tuesday with the Gastonia Honey Hunters of the independent Atlantic League of Professional Baseball.
After the Reds released him from his minor-league deal in late May, Godley was unable to find another opportunity in affiliated ball, so he'll head to the independent ranks to continue his downward-trending career. Since turning in a 3.55 ERA over 155 innings with the Diamondbacks in 2017, Godley has spent time in six organizations while logging a 5.57 ERA across 302.1 innings in the majors over parts of the past five years.

Godley signed a minor-league contract with the Reds on Sunday, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Across 21 appearances (18 starts) in the minors during the 2021 campaign, he logged a 4.39 ERA and 1.44 WHIP in 98.1 innings. It wouldn't be surprising to see the right-hander invited to big-league spring training if it occurs in 2022.

Zack Godley: Time over in Cleveland organization
Cleveland released Godley on Monday.
After declining an assignment to the Brewers' Triple-A affiliate when Milwaukee dropped him from its 40-man roster in late June, Godley quickly linked up on a minor-league deal with Cleveland. The 31-year-old right-hander was hoping to parlay a strong showing at Triple-A Columbus into a promotion back to the big leagues, but that never materialized. He was cut loose after posting a 6.00 ERA and 1.71 WHIP in 24 innings over six starts with Columbus.

Brewers' Zack Godley: Designated for assignment
Godley was designated for assignment by the Brewers on Monday.
Godley has already passed through waivers once this season back in mid-May. He's pitched just twice this season at the big-league level, giving up six earned runs in 3.1 innings, so there's seemingly a good chance he goes unclaimed again. Jake Cousins' contract was selected in a corresponding move.

He posted a 2.40 ERA and 1.10 WHIP in 30 innings during that time and will now return to the major-league roster after right-hander Eric Yardley was sent down in a corresponding move.

Brewers' Zack Godley: Reinstated and removed from roster
Godley (finger) was activated from the 10-day injured list Monday and designated for assignment.
Godley made a single start for the Brewers this season, lasting just three innings before exiting with a bruised finger. He'll now be available for any team to claim, but his 6.55 ERA over the last three seasons is unlikely to make him an attractive option.

Godley was starting in place of Brett Anderson (hamstring) on Wednesday, and he struggled with command by issuing five walks in three frames. The severity of Godley's injury is unknown, and it's not yet clear whether he'll make another start, even if he's healthy in time for his next turn through the rotation.

However, he issued a walk to begin the fourth inning and hit Chad Wallach with a pitch prior to leaving the game with a trainer. It's not yet clear whether Godley's departure is related to his finger issue, and whether he's forced to miss additional time remains to be seen. Godley allowed two runs (one earned) on one hit and five walks while striking out five in three innings prior to leaving the game.
