Pirates' Rookie Davis: Dropped from 40-man
The Pirates outrighted Davis to Triple-A Indianapolis on Sunday.
Davis has spent the bulk of the campaign at Indianapolis, where he supplied a 5.64 ERA and 1.59 WHIP in 52.2 innings. Those numbers didn't make a strong case for Davis to receive a September callup, so the Pirates elected to drop him from the 40-man roster to clear room for a more deserving option.

Pirates' Rookie Davis: Activated, sent to Triple-A
Davis (forearm) was activated off the 60-day injured list and optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis on Tuesday, Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic reports.
Davis originally landed on the IL in early June due to a blister but ended up missing extended time after the forearm injury cropped up during his rehab assignment. The 26-year-old has a 6.75 ERA, 1.88 WHIP and 10:8 K:BB over 10.2 innings and should see the majors again this season, if only when rosters expand in September.

Pirates' Rookie Davis: Moved to 60-day IL
Davis (forearm) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Saturday.
Davis has been sidelined since early June. While he remains without a timetable for his return, this move means he won't be eligible to return until at least Aug. 7. Parker Markel was claimed off waivers in a corresponding move.

Pirates' Rookie Davis: Shut down with forearm issue
Davis has been shut down for 10 days due to forearm tightness, Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic reports.
Davis is no longer dealing with the blister on his middle finger, but he suffered the new injury while on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Indianapolis last week. A new timetable for his return will hopefully emerge once he's able to resume his rehab assignment.

Pirates' Rookie Davis: Begins rehab assignment
Davis (finger) began a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Indianapolis on Sunday, John Perrotto of DKPittsburghSports.com reports.
Davis allowed one run across three innings in his first rehab start with Indianapolis, striking out two. He's expected to make at least one more rehab appearance before potentially rejoining the big club. With Trevor Williams (side) back from the injured list and Jordan Lyles (hamstring) nearing a return, Davis may not have a rotation spot to assume once healthy.

Pirates' Rookie Davis: Plans to throw Thursday
Davis (finger) is expected to throw a bullpen session Thursday, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports.
Davis joined the Pittsburgh rotation last week as a replacement for Nick Kingham, who was designated for assignment. He made it only three innings into his first start before developing a blister on his right middle finger that resulted in his placement on the 10-day injured list. Assuming the bullpen session goes well, Davis should get the green light to return when first eligible June 18 or shortly thereafter, but it's unclear if he'll have a rotation spot waiting for him.

Pirates' Rookie Davis: Chased early vs. Milwaukee
Davis (0-1) yielded three runs on four hits and five walks while striking out two over three innings Friday in a loss to the Brewers.
Davis allowed all three of his runs in the second inning on three hits, and it became evident early on that he couldn't locate his pitches. He fired just 40 of 76 offerings for strikes before getting yanked. The 26-year-old was added to the starting rotation prior to Friday's outing, so it remains to be seen whether he'll receive another shot.

Pirates' Rookie Davis: Heads to 10-day IL
Davis was placed on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a blister on his right middle finger.
The right-hander struggled against the Brewers in his start Friday, allowing three runs in three innings, and the injury could help explain his woes. Trevor Williams (side) and Chris Stratton (side) appear to be progressing in their rehabs, so it's possible the pitching staff could be full once Davis is ready to return. Reliever Michael Feliz was called up to fill Davis' spot.

Pirates' Rookie Davis: Gets shot to start
Davis will enter the rotation to start Friday against the Brewers, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports.
Davis has been a reliever in all four of his major-league appearances this season, though he's been predominantly a starter throughout his professional career. He hasn't pitched longer than three innings since joining the Pirates on May 25, but he should nevertheless be stretched out after serving as a starter in the minor leagues for most of the season.

Pirates' Rookie Davis: Could get Monday's spot start
Davis could make a spot start Monday in Cincinnati, Stephen J. Nesbitt of The Athletic reports.
The Pirates have a doubleheader Monday and will need to summon at least one pitcher from Triple-A Indianapolis to make that start. Nesbitt speculates that Davis may be that pitcher, considering he was scratched from his scheduled start Saturday. It's also possible that Davis could be called up to take Chris Stratton's (side) spot in the bullpen. Regardless, he would not be an appealing fantasy option. Davis has a 5.35 ERA, 1.51 WHIP and 27 strikeouts in 37 innings at Triple-A.

Pirates' Rookie Davis: Officially joins Pirates
Davis had his contract selected from Triple-A Indianapolis by the Pirates on Saturday.
Davis hasn't found much success at Indianapolis this season, recording a 5.35 ERA, 1.51 WHIP and 27:13 K:BB through 37 innings. The 26-year-old could be called upon for a spot start Monday against the Reds, but he may end up filling the bullpen spot of Chris Stratton (side), who landed on the injured list Saturday.

Pirates' Rookie Davis: Loses out on bullpen spot
Davis was reassigned to minor-league camp Tuesday.
Davis had been battling for a bench spot as a non-roster invitee. He didn't make a great case for himself this spring, allowing five runs in six innings with a 6:5 K:BB. He'll wait for his chance in the minors, but he's not on the 40-man roster so there's no guarantee an opportunity will come.

Pirates' Rookie Davis: Off to good start
Davis threw two scoreless innings against the Blue Jays on Friday. He gave up no hits and one walk, striking out three.
Davis, who last pitched in the majors with Cincinnati in 2017, is a candidate for the team's fifth starter's spot. The 25-year-old threw only 26.1 minor-league innings in 2018 due to an assortment of injuries and will likely build up his innings at Triple-A. Given the inconsistency shown by some of his competition, including Nick Kingham and Steven Brault, Davis figures to pitch for the Pirates at some point - provided he maintains his strong performance.

Pirates' Rookie Davis: Signs with Pirates
Davis signed a minor-league contract with the Pirates on Monday which includes an invitation to spring training, Emily Waldon of The Athletic reports.

Reds' Rookie Davis: Reinstated and outrighted to Triple-A
Davis (arm) was reinstated from the 60-day disabled list, cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Louisville on Monday.
Davis hasn't pitched at the big-league level all season, first with a hip problem and then with an arm issue. He now appears unlikely to do so this season, as he's off the 40-man roster and therefore unlikely to be a September callup. He certainly hasn't been pitching like a big leaguer during his rehab assignment, as he's recorded an ugly 6.49 ERA in 26.1 innings split between Double-A Pensacola, High-A Dayton and the Reds' AZL affiliate.

Reds' Rookie Davis: Dealing with right arm discomfort
Contrary to a previous report, Davis (hip) was returned from his rehab assignment due to right arm discomfort.
He has been on the disabled list all season with a hip injury, but now it sounds like he has suffered an arm injury, making it seem unlikely that he gets into a big-league game this season. During his rehab, he's logged a 5.59 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 14:2 K:BB in 19.1 innings across four starts at three different minor-league levels, the highest of which was Double-A.

Reds' Rookie Davis: Advances rehab to Double-A
Davis (hip) will take his rehabilitation assignment to Double-A Pensacola on Friday, Doug Gray of RedsMinorLeagues.com reports.

Reds' Rookie Davis: Moves rehab to High-A
Davis (hip) made the second appearance of his rehab assignment at High-A Daytona on Tuesday, allowing five runs (four earned) on five hits and a walk over five innings in the club's 5-1 loss to Clearwater. He struck out three.
Davis tossed 62 pitches in the start, throwing 48 for strikes. Considering he has been on the shelf throughout 2018 while recovering from offseason right hip surgery, Davis will likely require at least two more outings in the minors before the Reds activate him from the 60-day disabled list. Davis, who made seven appearances (six starts) for the Reds in 2017, is expected to be optioned to Triple-A Louisville or Double-A Pensacola once activated.
